Sadly, I don't remember the last time I saw a star in the night sky. Not because I don't look, but because the light pollution obscures them all.
Calvin and Hobbes Looking up at the night sky.

Calvin - "If people looked at the stars each night, I'll bet they'd live a lot differently."
Hobbes - "How so?"
Calvin - "Well, when you look into infinity, you realize that there are more important things than what people do all day."
Hobbes - "We spent OUR day looking under rocks in the creek."
Calvin - "I mean OTHER people."

Lately I have been wondering if Star Was was inspired by some messed up family dynamics George Lucas encountered.

I watched a video on surnames and it's a bit humbling to know my ancestor was known for making some kind of dumpling / noodle dish.

We all shouldn't forget what Yoda said... "Luke stay away from the darker side and if you start to go astray let the force be your guide. I know Darth Vader has got you really annoyed, but remember if you kill him then you'll be unemployed." - Yoda

I knocked an earbud out of my ear pulling a vine in a rocky area full of overgrowth. Really bad place to lose an earbud. Looked for 10 minutes and couldn't find it. Eventually I decide to switch the audio to Ratatat's Neckbrace and find it in 2 minutes. Ratatat saved the day!
A still from Ratatat's Neckbrace video Mike Stroud on a rock guitar with a hundred parakeets behind him.

That's an interesting point. You say enough clever things about things you agree on and you think they're clever about everything. Reality is they're just parroting clever things. I don't agree with all of Reagan's policies, but I do agree with Reagan's stance on free trade.

If it makes you feel better, I remembered Milton Friedman saying it. He gave credit to Reagan.

"We and our trading partners are in the same boat. If one partner shoots a hole in the bottom of the boat, does it make sense for the other partner to shoot another hole in the boat? There are those who say yes, and call it getting tough. I call it getting wet -- all over." - Regan - March 4th, 1983

Good news is I found the leak. Bad news is I need a new rim.

The real issue isn't that contractor, it's that their corporate tracking probably incentives them to have that behavior. If they were paid per successful delivery they probably would act differently.

It started with love bombing, escalated into a full-scale love invasion, followed by a prolonged love occupation. Eventually there was a love ceasefire, and now I’m paying love reparations.

I'm looking at the 5600x3D microcenter bundle for $349, and then I go look at a review 3 years ago....and it shows a similar bundle for $329. I'm so not used to hardware appreciating.

I do a lot of speed limit mapping for OpenStreetMap. Most maps have a default speed limit for residential roads of 25 mph, Google Maps is probably doing some estimated average, and Waze is defaulting to some default county/state speed. You'd think it would be easy to figure out, but it's not.

My CRX broke down on me going home from the gym. My brother picked me up, drove me home, I managed to have a spare part and fixed my car and drove it home 2 hours later.

Vibe coding....is frustrating. I'm doing my best to adapt and understand the tradeoffs. It's just mentally feels more like management than software development.

Computer vision with self supervisions reminds me of scoring algorithms in genetic algorithms. In that if there is a flaw in your scoring system, both systems will exploit that flaw.

I tend to ask it to write/add some diagnostic code that helps visualize the problem/solution. For instance I found out SIFT wasn't finding points in a section of a video so I at least knew that was the problem.

I have been vibe coding a vision related project. It's such a surreal experience to prototype complex ideas quickly and get results, but when it fails I have to figure out if the code was bad or my idea was bad.

So somehow my coffee is reflecting the sun into my computer screen. And I realized it's showcasing minor disturbances due to vibrations. It picks up when I type and the low rumble of construction workers nearby. It only lasted for a few minutes but it was a fun few minutes.

I am frustrated with all the "Is [blank] worth it?" posts I see online. Either some people are unable to make personal purchasing decisions without worrying about upsetting some online tribal council. OR They are really lonely and want to talk about what they're buying. Either way it's sad.
