A remarkably well-preserved 3,400 year-old linen tunic with contrasting bands around the neckline and along the side edges. It belonged to an ancient Egyptian official named Kha. Excavated from Theban Tomb TT8 at Deir el-Medina in 1906. Muzeo Egizio, Turin. 📷 by me #FindsFriday #Archaeology
My photo shows a rectangular, short-sleeved, creamy-coloured linen tunic adorned with contrasting brown bands around the neckline, down the sides, and along the hem. Length 123.5 cm x 115 cm.

It is one of seventeen short-sleeved linen tunics excavated in 1906 by Ernesto Schiaparelli from the intact Theban tomb (TT8) of Kha and his wife Merit at Deir el-Medina.

Kha was the ‘Director of Works’ responsible for supervising the workers who constructed and decorated the royal tombs in the Valley of the kings.

John Ruskin was born on this day in 1819. One of the most influential writers on art and architecture in 19th-century Britain, Ruskin made detailed studies of plants, birds, landscapes and other subjects. Here we share a portrait of John Ruskin by John Everett Millais, painted in the 1850s.

A view of the front of the St Thomas Becket Casket, showing the full object. The front plate depicts the murder of Saint Thomas, Archbishop of Canterbury by four assailants. On the slope of the roof the Saint's burial is depicted. The two pentagonal end-plates each bear a figure of an Apostle.

The oast houses at Outridge Farm in Kent. A large stone building with three square kilns for hops next to a barn which has a black painted timber clad upper storey. The roofs of the structures are red tiles and the cowls at the top are white painted. The buildings are set next to a track and there is a small farmhouse at the top of the hill and trees in the background.
