⚠️ Car trap. Respect. #Cambridge

A warning triangle containing an exclamation mark. Underneath the words "Car trap", and a separate panel with graphics of two pedestrians and a cyclist and the word "RESPECT". In the background railway tracks, and parallel to them, nearest the camera, mysterious concrete tracks with yellow rimmed holes to trap cars.

February fill-dyke.

A marshy field with an electricity pole. A wood pigeon is perched on one of the wires. Pools of water lie in the field, and a flock of black headed gulls is standing on the far side of one in the distance. Patches of Juncus effusus are dotted around the field and pools. On the far side of the field leafless winter trees are outlined against the misty sky.

@skinnylatte Last time I ate in an Indian restaurant I picked a dish which had curry leaves in, which I love. There were no curry leaves when it arrived and I complained. The waiter claimed they were blended into the sauce. Nonsense. Here are the ingredients […] [Original post on mstdn.science]

A mortar with ground spices, and three bowls containing skinned and boned chicken thighs, curry leaves and shallots, and grated ginger and garlic.

Kingd Parade #Cambridge this evening.

View along Kings Parade, Cambridge. A row of shops on the left faces the elaborately spired porters lodge of Kings College on the right. White Christmas lights in botanical motifs decorate the streetlights in front of the shops. There is still light in the sky from the sunset, graduating from dark to lighter blue near the horizon. A cargo bike in the middle distance heads away.

I really don't care for the new clock app icon in #iOS and #iPadOS 26. The old design is clean and minimal, with all the hours numbered. I can tell the time at a glance. The new design adds tick marks for each minute and only keeps four of the hour numbers. It's too busy in a small size.

The iOS 18 clock app icon on the left and iOS 26 icon on the right.

@hrbrmstr DuckDB is my favourite thing! You could parse the nginx timestamp with strptime() thus:

DuckDB prompt showing successful parsing of nginx timestamp field into a timestamp with time zone with the code:

SELECT strptime('05/Sep/2025:02:10:33 -0400', '%d/%b/%Y:%H:%M:%S %z') AS ts;

Upgrading #MacOS Sequoia to 15.6 has, weirdly, affected some of my font settings. In Mail it changed my fixed-width font setting to "Helvetica 13", so I changed it back to "SF Mono Regular 13". It also appeared to turn Apple #font smoothing back on, which I […] [Original post on mstdn.science]

Picture of the code:

defaults -currentHost write -g AppleFontSmoothing -int 0

Applications need to be restarted after applying this setting to see its effect.

@elisabethbik.bsky.social You do mean that there's just this one duplication, don't you?

Biden's sitting National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan sent Top Secret messages to Hillary Clinton's private account.
And what did DOJ do about it? Not a damn thing.
