You are writing this from a position of safety that many do not have. Do you know how hard it is for so many people who are suffering due to “the other side” ideological bias to just get through every day? People fearing their family and friends will be taken by ICE, to name one of many examples?

There are research methods that don’t rely on surveys and in some cases people LOVE to talk about their experience if they can see it has led to a change they can experience themselves.

Yeah I personally dont do that but I agree.

I use AI in my work every day and find it very useful when I have a defined set of data: where before I had to read thru it all and do shenanigans in Excel it now does the analysis for me. But I don’t begrudge writers, artists and other creatives saying they hate it and won’t use it.

I do tech market research and the synthetic data is just a lazy way of getting around the fact that respondents are tired of being asked for feedback for every single interaction they have without seeing what it gets them personally.

I know of an executive who is introducing “synthetic users” as a thing at a major survey research company and I hate that people are being duped into buying those snake oil products. People are complicated, difficult, & fascinating. Just don’t do user research if you don’t want to put in the time.
