The inaugural Python Packaging Council (PPC) election has concluded. With 17 candidates and plenty of lively AMA discussions on DPO, we are pleased to see the level of engagement with this first PPC election.

The 2026 election for the PSF Board created an opportunity for conversations about the PSF's work to serve the global Python community. We appreciate community members' perspectives, passion, and engagement in the election process this year. 

In May, the Python Software Foundation (PSF) shared the high-level goals of our Strategic Plan. In June, we published the full draft and opened it for community feedback. Today we are sharing the outcome: at its July 8 meeting, the PSF Board adopted the PSF Strategic Plan 2026, covering 2026 to 2031.

The Python Software Foundation (PSF) is excited to announce a 2026 PSF Grants Program funding round. This is not a full reopening of the Grants Program as it existed before. Rather, it's what the PSF is able to sustainably offer right now, given where we stand financially and operationally. The PSF Board, PSF Staff, and PSF Grants Work Group (GWG) are deeply passionate about the program and understand how important it is to the Python community. It’s our honor to have the opportunity to disburse grant funding in 2026. In keeping with our focus on sustainability, this round of grant funding has a set budget capped at $90,000 USD, a limited scope, and a different structure and timeline for applying and reviewing. We will be accepting applications from August 4 - 25 AoE, for Conferences and Workshops that are scheduled between December 1, 2026, and April 30, 2027. Our top priority is getting available funds to the regional communities who need it most: those who have had to pause their events and initiatives because of lack of funding from PSF Grants or loss of sponsors.

With the recent approval of PEP 772 – Packaging Council governance process, a new Python Packaging Council (PPC) is being established with broad authority over packaging specifications and the mandate to coordinate Python packaging efforts. The PSF Community Service Awards (CSAs) are a formal way for the PSF Board of Directors to offer recognition of work which, in its opinion, significantly improves the Foundation's fulfillment of its mission to build a vibrant, welcoming, global Python community. These awards shine a light on the incredible people who are the heart and soul of our community– those whose dedication, creativity, and generosity help the PSF fulfill its mission. The PSF CSAs celebrate individuals who have been truly invaluable, inspiring others through their example, and demonstrates that service to the Python community leads to recognition and reward. If you know of someone in the Python community deserving of a PSF CSA award, please submit them to the PSF Board via psf@python.org at any time. If you’d like to attend and actively participate in the Packaging Summit at PyCon US 2026, please fill in this form by April 30 (AoE). This summit is in-person only, at PyCon US 2026 in Long Beach, CA. It will be held on Friday, May 15th, from approximately 1:45 pm - 5:45 pm (room 201A). We will be evaluating all requests on a rolling basis, and aim to confirm your attendance by May 4th. Your attendance is not yet confirmed until you hear back from us.
