My friend @depstein1983.bsky.social is starting an awesome music writing project. The first issue drops today! You can subscribe for free, but because he's the most righteous dude in America, if you do a paid sub, he'll donate half the money to a music education charity.

Jewel Case Journal: A different kind of music newsletter, by @depstein1983.bsky.social (Re)Discovering a CD collection, one album at a time. Proceeds go to a good cause that supports music education. Subscribe: jewelcasejournal.beehiiv.com

I spent my high school and college years carefully building and curating a killer CD collection. Then the world around me pivoted to digital as I became a too-busy adult, and my CDs sat forgotten in the basement. Now I’m rediscovering them one at a time.

If you want a traditional album review, you can search and find dozens on the Internet.

What you’ll get here are my perspectives on the music from more than 30 years of playing drums in bands, stories about people connected to the album, or personal anecdotes that the songs brought back to life.

50% of JCJ proceeds go to Music Will, a very cool organization that supports music education with instrument donations, teacher resources, and professional development. They donated music gear to my school, which I used to teach music basics to students in grades 3-5.
