Kerkering probably thought that throw was easier than the spin and throw, didnt account for HSKs speed and panicked when he saw JT just standing there pointing at first. 010

Its a force at any base and you are always taught easiest base in that scenario. He was probably thinking that was easier than the spin and throw to 1B. He didn't account for HSK' speed. 120
