This a broader problem than AI. The use of other people's hardware for computing tasks will always risk the centralisation of power. I wrote a little bit about the conflict between personal computing and timeshare computing in a recent blog post. jetsetilly.github.io/Gopher2600-B...

I've just posted a new blog article with some thoughts about coding agents. In particular, I examine the plausibility of using domestic hardware for agent work. jetsetilly.github.io/Gopher2600-B...

One's an investment that'll last me years and the other is an ongoing expense.

I thought it was superb. One of the best SF books I've read. It reminded me of The Gods Themselves (which I should reread).

Judging by the trailer it seems to be trying something new in the documentary genre. It's rare that a new documentary comes along that breaks the mold. I'm hoping for new and exciting filmmaking.

I keep an eye on the open models and try them occasionally. On my hardware (RTX5070) they're good enough to ask, "does this function do what I think it does". But not good enough (or more likely my hardware isn't good enough) to ask, "find security vulnerabilities in this (large) project".

> If you are not asking them to debug your code and review your bugs, you are doing it wrong. I don't ask Claude or any other commercial LLM to do those things because I can't afford to. These tools need to be accessible on personal computers for them to be useful to me and people like me.

I've not seen the film but after reading about it I'm wondering why they didn't make a 4:3 print for non IMAX viewing.

You can really see with this example, why our ancestors referred to these as tongue stones. I'd love to see one more closely. I've only ever seen photos.

Then one day, one of the regulars brings his mate Claude to the pond and starts throwing sticks of dynamite into the water. Nobody is impressed by the scores of dead fish. Fishing is no longer fun. 2/2

I like to think of my hobby as a fishing pond. We quietly fish together, occasionally nodding to each other and sagely sharing information about the best fishing spots. At the end of the day we compare our fish and let them back into the pond. #atari2600 #ai #programming 1/2

I use chromatic aberration in my CRT shader so that it's more intense at the edges of the screen. In my mind, I'm emulating the light having to pass through more glass at the curved edges. Probably totally wrong, but I like it.

But we're already seeing the negative aspect of the new technology. People can see that and I think that's why Schmidt was getting booed. It would be better for all of us if the technology was still in the research lab.

The bigger cars have also driven the need for newer tracks. The older tracks are not ideal for racing larger cars.

I loved ripping music modules from #Amiga demos and games and I've often wondered what a ripper would look like for the #Atari2600 It's very difficult to do on the 2600 because of the lack of standard formats. But I think I've found a way. www. youtube.com/watch?v=FH6rUfhU4sM

For me, Forks can be handled by people cloning the repository to a local machine and then pushing to their own account on the hypothetical service. Pull Requests can be announced in a rudimentary Issues feature and as a maintainer I can add the forked project as an additional remote.
010
Stephen Illingworth @jetsetilly.bsky.social · 29/04/2026
Yes. I just need something simple to facilitate distributing hobby projects as source and as binaries. I use git locally so being able to push and pull to the remote makes sense and allows people to keep up between releases I personally don't need Pull Requests or Actions.
110
Stephen Illingworth @jetsetilly.bsky.social · 29/04/2026
I do it on my own usually. The only thing I use Actions for is building a MacOS binary, which would be awkward (but not impossible) to do otherwise. All other cross compilations I can manage myself.

Stephen Illingworth @jetsetilly.bsky.social · 28/04/2026
I'd be happy with a place that I can just mirror my local git repositories and present a release page with binary assets.

It doesn't appear so. The only transformation is a conversion to lower case. What I find interesting is that the only reason for the test is to log the result. I wonder if they're using it as a crude measure for customer satisfaction. "This quarter there's an average of 9 swears every 1000 inputs"
