Amanda’s point here is both critical and hopeful: Fascism, by its nature, will eventually fail, because it selects for incompetence. www.tiktok.com/t/ZTUkuthnM/

My family is from that area. I would feel confident going alone. There are always so many pilgrims that if you are alone, and there are always solo pilgrims, there are also others to walk with/near. (This is part of the Camino Portuguese).

The latest delight after switching to an EV: when I bought it, the car was supposed to have a max range of 307 miles. Last night while charging, the range went north of 330. The car is getting *better* 🤯. An ICE could never. *100% charging bc I have a road trip

The lightening speed at which me and my girls have adopted Jeremy Culhane’s Tucker Carlson into our everyday patterns should be studied. That’s the rule. That’s the goal now.

There’s a paragraph early in Margo’s Got Money Troubles that perfectly, painfully, describes new motherhood in its existential, excruciating detail.
“It is two a.m. and you are kicking me and a three-week-old baby out of the apartment?” Margo asked, feeling the wonderful, revving warmth of rage. She hadn’t known this was what she needed: to fight. She was so angry, she’d been angry for weeks: at Mark for making her pregnant and also for being right that babies were hard and she shouldn’t have had one, at Shyanne for not helping more and for being correct that this decision would ruin her life. It was ruining her life. Her life was ruined. She hadn’t taken a shower in four days, and even when she did there was no other choice than to lay Bodhi on the bathmat and let him cry, talking to him and singing as she washed her hair and body as fast as she could. Why on earth had she done this? The size, the sheer magnitude, of her own idiocy was crushing. And it hurt all the worse because she loved Bodhi more than she’d ever loved anything or anyone, and she would not give him up for all the world.

Absolutely not. Bonnets were functional to shield face + neck from the sun, see slat bonnet 1-3. While some women were wearing smaller, more vertical “bonnets” by 1880s, those were fashion (see last pic) which is not the frontier situation! The still is a silly aesthetic choice, not an accurate one.

It’s been a year since I switched to an EV. I will never go back. This is the best car I’ve ever owned. My kid made a joke that it looks like a car a stormtrooper would drive. So meet the Deathstar. And just so there’s no confusion (extra confusion?) there’s a little rebel symbol on the frame.

Got to play our favorite restaurant game: who is banging in the walk-in? Works best if you’re seated at the counter and can really see who is working the floor.

The best Imaginary Authors fragrance is Sundrunk. The rhubarb is slightly sharp against the neroli and honeysuckle, with the barest touch of rose. Drydown is beautiful Like wearing Chinotto.

It was In Love with Everything (what irony). Notes: Raspberry, Citrus Pulp, Coconut Palm Sugar, Tropical Punch, Sandalwood (always a tricky note for me). Beginning to think this house may not be for me…

Yes! You can have Pero! It’s my favorite of the not-coffee options and is available in most grocery stores. It’s malted barley, chicory, and rye. I’d also suggest Perk since they have lots flavors, but you’d have to check labels since some of them may have a fake milk or fruit (but only some!)

Safety pin the heels of your socks together before you put them into the laundry. No more lost socks. Pairs always. Keeps them together in drawers. I keep a small box of safety pins near my hamper. Get good safety pins for this (Dritz) and they’ll last forever.

I just want to know what the Sezane blouses look like, but tragically they use French models, who are all born with wet baguette spines, so we will never know.

Entirely pleased by how the two pies turned out: the double all-butter crust apple with Rome Apples from my dad’s tree; a new pie, something called “Hawaiian Delight”, a coconut cream with added pineapple and mandarin oranges, topped with whipped cream rosettes and toasted almonds. Happy Christmas!

Agree with this! Also, if they’re rising in a pan, mark with masking tape where double will be once they’ve doubled (they’d hit the bottom of the masking tape) which also helps. If the dough is rising, I use a clear marked container and take a pic of before so I know what doubled will look like.

Gave myself a side quest on a walk.
Dozens of Fall leaves arranged by color into a wave: a large green sycamore leaf on the left, mottling green and yellow beech leaves, to golden aspen leaves, tiny yellow maple leaves, to orange maple leaves, and swirling up, red oak leaves, dark red maple leaves on the right.

Yesterday, the lyrics to No Children, by the Mountain Goats kept running through my head, and I thought, Ahh, He’s going to win. Anyway! The fury is deep and disguised with a fae’s sharp smile. “You are coming down with me Hand in unloveable hand I hope you die I hope we both die”

The roots of Elon’s support of Trump are based in misogyny. He considers women means of self-propagation, not humans. It's part of why he responds to his trans daughter w/outward fury instead of love. Again, when someone supports Trump, they are not safe for women. @swordsjew.bsky.social
These men have a real champion in Donald Trump, who is a misogynist and is accused of sexual violence by tons of women, and who has been able to achieve his status through a kind of domineering misogyny that emasculates other men and really violently degrades women. And I think that is not a bug not for Trump's success in this race, that is a feature.

TL: Oh yeah, absolutely. I mean, this is a choice. It's the first election since women were formally legally stripped of their bodily autonomy in this nation, and the choice is between the first female president and a rapist.

It really could not be more stark, and yet, for political reasons that are understandable, neither Kamala Harris nor anyone else is emphasizing just how gendered this election is.

Alhambra over Granada (sketched during church.) I’d forgotten how hard it can be to get strong value from a regular mechanical pencil—great for detail but hard for shading. Finished with a little charcoal pencil.

Ridiculous country, Spain. Just, castles, cathedrals, mosques that were subsumed by cathedrals, monasteries, quaint vistas, the oldest universities in the world, like how is the entirety of human achievement in one place?

If someone wants to take you to the Alhambra, you should absolutely go. In my opinion.
The gardens at the Alhambra, green in the foreground, the towers rising in the middle, with the city of Granada in the distance. Three arches, covered in Moorish patterns, frame the gardens of the Alhambra, with the city of Granada in the distance. The columns of a courtyard in the Alhambra glow golden in the sun, intricate patterns decorate their arches, and a small sluice of water runs along the floor to a central fountain Romanesque ruins with tile roofs cling to a hillside.
