The festival opening for Melbourne was pretty disappointing. I figured there would be at least some kind of performance not pre-recorded video being played on the building walls of Fed Square. I ended up having a walk along the Yarra which made up for it.

I’ve made the mistake of letting my dogs curl up with me when I’m WFH now they’re very insistent on cuddling during meetings 😆

It’s funny how the same songs can make you feel nauseous and nostalgic. My mum used to put on Enya on the long windy car ride to my grandmas when I was a kid. And I used to get very bad car sickness. I still love Enya but after a while of listening, I start feeling sick because of the association 😆

Ugh. I stayed up too late, got many an hour of sleep then had a whole internal debate with myself whether an extra 40 minutes was worth it. The extras 40 minutes won out in the end but now I’m feeling all out of sorts getting in later than I usually do. 😣

I think I’m going to move onto BALL X PIT as the next game out of my 12 in 12. I have started OFF but OFF requires focus and taking notes whereas BALL X PIT seems like a decent game to play chilling with my dogs, half watching TV.

Well one game down for my 12 in 12. I really enjoyed Manifold Garden despite not understanding the narrative. Visually stunning, really interesting puzzles and beautiful music. Based on the achievements, there’s still more that can be done but I think I’m going to look that up. Highly recommend ❤️

I’ve noticed a cute thing on the YouTube app when you like certain types of Shorts, the like button turns from a thumbs up to like cat, or a dog, or even a food icon after you’ve liked it. I really like little things like that ❤️

I’ve been on Minecraft horror video binge lately. And can I just say how impressive some of them are. They can get genuinely creepy.

I’m listening to the dramatised version of Dungeon Madness from the Divine Dungeon series and I’m really enjoying it. I mean I’ve read it before but all the extra sound effects, music, and different voices make it a really engaging listen.

I’m debating getting a Kobo eReader. I do own a Kindle but from what I’ve read a Kobo has more longevity because you’re able to repair it unlike the Kindle. It’d also be good to get out of that ecosystem because of Amazon not supporting devices (removing functionality) when they get old enough.

I love going to markets… I just wish they weren’t so overstimulating, it leaves me exhausted. I went to the Big Design Market at the Royal Exhibition Building and it was beautiful with such a variety of things to check out. Might have to try getting there around opening time next time.

I’m starting to get better with finding time to read regularly. It’s slower than I used to be because I used to just binge a book in a day or less depending on the size. But it’s slowly getting easier to pick up and read without immediately being distracted ❤️

There’s something elegant about the mechanics of Manifold Garden. It introduced being able to rotate the blocks you can pick up and now I’m diverting streams to activate water wheels. If I rotate the world then they became paths. All the while it plays with your perception through portals. Stunning.

I try to avoid Temu when I look for things. The whole layout feels really scammy? Should I give it a chance when I’m looking for things? I’ve heard that people are basically dropshipping stuff from Temu on sites like Amazon and hiking up the price.

My dogs are so ball obsessed. They love playing fetch, so they drop the ball by my feet to get me to pick it up and throw. They’ve now started preempting me leaving my room by running up and dropping the ball right outside the door. They’re such silly billies.

In Subnautica 2, the Great Jaw has eyes in its mouth. I wonder what advantages having eyes and multiple eyes at that there would do. Presumably it doesn’t move from where it is and it seems to only react when parts are brushed against/ touched. It does look cool but makes me wonder 🤔

I’ve decided to set myself a reading goal of 10 books for this year on Goodreads. I’m really out of practice and I’m hoping this way I’ll start building up the habit again. Ideally I’ll end up reading way more but keeping it reasonable means less disappointment.

I had a game idea where it’s to try and recreate the terror of cave diving. The claustrophobia, the dwindling air supply, lost in murky waters with no idea which way is out. It was after watching all those tragic cave diving stories. But then I realised that Subnautica pretty much captures that.

Sometimes I wish I wasn’t so terrified of the sea because Subnautica is so pretty and immersive. I’m watching early access playthroughs of the sequel and it’s an immediate nope despite how much it’d be cool to play.

Manifold Garden is so trippy. I’ve done two levels so far and man does it make you really think about how to rotate the environment to solve the puzzles. I’m impressed by how it’s slowly introducing new ways to use such a simple mechanic. Story wise, I think I’m purifying worlds from corruption?

It’s funny how they you call a dog out, they immediately act innocent. It’s almost like they’re saying “I’m too cute to have done that”. Then they’ll sneakily try and keep doing the thing 😆

I’ve started reading Project Hail Mary. I watched the movie and absolutely loved it. I also adored The Martian book and movie, so figured the book would be just as if not better than the movie. I’m already one chapter in and it was a struggle to put the book down to take care of life needs 😄

There’s a Rome exhibition at the Melbourne Museum that I want to check out. I hope it’s a decent size. The last exhibit I went to was treasures from the Viking age which were these recently found silver bullions. Fascinating but also disappointing when I was hoping for weapons or jewellery pieces.

I’m looking forward to Melbourne Rising. I’ve booked a couple of shows already but I need to have a better look at what’s on to see if there’s anything else interesting. Not gonna lie, I am excited to check out the Furby Chorus and Friends. I used to have one as a kid.

It’s interesting checking out the little galleries/ showcases set up for Melbourne Design Week. I’ve done the city walk but there’s like 4 different areas. I wish it was longer because I can’t visit on weekdays due to work and the places closing when I get off work. Such a shame.

I ended up picking OFF. I remember playing but not getting far back when it was an obscure game you downloaded off some random site. I got super into the various analysis posts delving deep into the symbolism and text of the game.

I finished Scritchy Scratchy. I love it when a game doesn’t drag on for too long. The ending was unexpected but kinda cute in a way. Now onto picking something else from my backlog. Maybe OFF or Omori. Something a bit more story heavy.

I’m actually lowkey excited to see the Streetfighter movie. I like that there’s a bunch of video games being turned into movies and TV-Shows. Sure, there’s going to be a lot of misses but you’ll get some real gems.

As I was watching the pre-roll ads for Mortal Kombat 2. I saw the trailers for Street Fighter and He-Man: Masters of the Universe. And guess which one used What’s Up by the 4 Non Blondes. Hint: it wasn’t He-Man.

I have a stationery problem. I keep picking up cute pens and markers even though I already have a mountain already back home. Do they get used eventually? Sometimes 😣

For the longest time, I had the faint memory of this game I used to play as a kid. It was a screensaver aquarium where you could play these midified classical music. Google searches of those terms got me nowhere but I managed to stumble across an image of the game. Now I know it’s called Aquazone😄

The Mortal Kombat 2 movie was funnier than I was expecting. It really did not take itself seriously. Very camp/ cheesy. Very straightforward plot. Lots of fatalities. It was nice to see after a stressful day of work.

I’ve played a bit more Scritchy Scratchy and it’s opened up more than I was expecting. The prestige system upgrades really help quickly get you back to progressing. And I just realised that you get a cosmetic currency from achievements. I’m really enjoying it.

I am somewhat optimistic about the new Backrooms movie that’s coming out this month. Already grabbed tickets in advance. I really like the idea of the backrooms and love what Kane Pixels has produced for it so far.

I have such a huge backlog of games to go through, especially on Steam. I’m thinking I should do a thing where I can only buy more games when I’ve completed some from my backlog first. But that sales can be so tempting 😣

I picked up Scritchy Scratchy recently. It’s like a scratch card cookie clicker. I kind of wish there were more scratch cards to unlock. I’ve only played around 2 hours, so maybe I just haven’t gotten to that point yet.

I wish I’d got some more sleep. It’s really tough concentrating in morning meetings when you’re that tired. Especially when they’re quite technical and you have to give an update on what you’re planning on doing 😣

I recently visited a lightshow at the Immigration Museum. It was so pretty, and a nice relaxing way to decompress after a stressful week at work. There was classical music and beanbags. I'm definitely going to keep an eye out for any others that pop up.

Man, dreams can be so weird sometimes. I had this freaky dream that was this whole narrative around an end of the world scenario where reality itself was folding into itself and anything caught in this areas merged together into these flesh blobs or in some cases deformed giant humanoid figures.

I was watching a video on some of the places in the backrooms and I think the best bit of the backrooms is how inexplicable they are. How empty yet nostalgic they feel. Everyone keeps trying to add these new creepy monsters for every floor when it should be about the environment and atmosphere.

It’s the worst time to be a Pokémon card collector now. Scalpers are buying everything up and selling with huge markups. Buying from retailers that allow returns means you might end up with a resealed box with all the “valuable” cards removed. And it’s easy to get fake packs. It really sucks.

I’ve been hearing a lot of concerning things about GitHub lately. Pushes that delete code/ history, security exploits. I’ve been using GitHub for years - for work and personally. And it seems like all these issues and frequent downtime are happening more often…

The joys of being on-call. I don’t often have to actually do anything and it’s a nice bit of extra cash but it does mean I can’t plan anything in case an alert comes in.

I’ve started playing Vampire Survivors recently. Should’ve expected it to be addictive like Megabonk, considering it’s pretty much a 3D version. I’m loving all the puzzle elements - figuring out level unlocks or defeating bosses. I’m currently trying to figure out how to defeat a ball of skeletons.

I have a love-hate relationship with rainy weather. I love waking up to the sound of rain and I think rainy weather is lovely when I’m working from home. But I hate rain with a passion when I have to head to the office for work.
