That being said, I have run many montages and never had a partial success, my players don’t normally assist unless they think they will fail. And they almost always take a success with consequences instead of a fail.

A player can assist the next player’s roll, so that helper does not generate a success or failure.

Nearing the end of part 1 of crack the sun. The heroes lost initiative but the troubadour starting the player’s turn by criting dramatic reversal. Followed by a second dramatic reversal. At the end of their turn, 4 minions and their captain was dead due to free strikes!

Thanks. Was a fave of mine. Was lucky to use it twice and see how two groups handled it. The second group unfortunatly had to deal with me learning from my past mistakes. And had a tougher time because of it! Now it will be disassembled and reborn as something new.

Aftermath of today’s fight. Full frontal assault up the stairs. The front line shattered with a charge by the fury. The leader did manage to toss most of the PCs down the stairs. The line of undead arms placed on the stairs really did impede the PCs but in the end that tactician put her down

Yellow stair stands indicate where the line of grasping arms infested the battlefield. The elementalist never needed to move as her long range attacks rained up upon the enemy

Similar feelings. Daisy Ridley or bust for more Skywalker. Need Mark H. for ghost Luke, who should get a shit ton of screen time. Qui gon then should find John B. and teach him about the force. Fix all the crap that the last trilogy screwed up.

Of course, the director should remind players. That said, it is completely OK for the director to have the NPC choose a different target. The only problem I have with that if it doesn’t make sense in the narrative. If it looks silly for the monster to target someone else,then the PC dies.

This is something players and directors have to learn. If the players at negative hit points and they’re still slugging it out taking the extra damage just for doing a main action then they have signed their name to the “it’s OK to kill my character list.”

I prefer out in the open. 1) Some players need to know when malice is used for their character abilities 2) It lets players know how more powerful the remaining npcs are becoming. 3) Reminds me to actually use it at times.

Since at the table i use glass beads for resources, when I remind the players that they get to add their victories to resource pools, I dramatically drop my beads into container. Then I count out one for each player, then add one for the 1st round. It reminds everyone about malice and adds tension.

If they had 2 victories it would be. Round 1: 10 (7+1+2) Round 2: 9 (7+2) Etc. first round living players + round number + average player victories 2nd round and beyond just living players + round number

Tacticians are fun… to maximize the fun I find that it really helps if you keep the communication lines open to your players before and during your fight.

I had two groups handle it very differently. One snuck into the island made an entrance to the back building directly killing all in there in less than two rounds. The other snuck onto the island and basically just started slaughtering the folks in the main area. Massive fight! Both very fun.

Draw steel Minion’s stamina pool is a bit more mental work than 4e minions. But they make up for it by making PCs feel more epic by having that damage spill over rule. In one of my games the shadow loves using her Coup de Grace ability to wipe out entire squads of minions with one attack.

I was the lead dev of a PC game series from the late 90s into the 2000s. Yes we did crunch, but it was often caused by suits changing the dates. When we had more control we tried our best to minimize the damage to our families. Crunch is not inevitable

Same, and now when I try to check to see if iOS 27 is ready... I still get hey you can download 26.7 (even though I just did) and then I get a banner that says iOS 27 is also an option only to click it and it wants me to install 26.7 again. I understand busy servers, but come on...
