It's 2025, and Google's darling child, Gemini, STILL gets timezone math wrong. The correct answer is 9PM AEDT or 8PM AEST. It can't tell whether daylight savings is in effect, and it got AEST and AEDT back to front anyway. Couldn't it do this properly just fine before they moved to AI overviews?
Screenshot of a Google AI overview for a search for "Dec 25, 2025 2:00 a.m. (PST)":

December 25, 2025, at 2:00 a.m. PST (UTC-8) is Christmas morning in the Pacific Time Zone, falling on December 25, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. UTC and, depending on Daylight Saving, around 6:00 PM AEDT (Melbourne time) or 7:00 PM AEST, which is a significant difference from the PST time itself, as PST is UTC-8 and AEDTIAEST are UTC+10/UTC+11.
Here's a breakdown:

• PST (Pacific Standard Time): 2:00 a.m. on Dec 25, 2025 (UTC-8).
• UTC (Coordinated Universal Time): 10:00 a.m. on Dec 25, 2025 (2 a.m. PST + 8 hours).
• AEDT/AEST (Melbourne/Australia): Around 6:00 PM or 7:00 PM on Dec 25, 2025 (since Australia is well ahead of PST).

So, if you're in Melbourne, it would be evening on Christmas Day when it's early morning Christmas Day in the PST zone.

Not the best weekend for it temperature wise, but it's always fun regardless!
