‼️Two new PhD positions open! One experimental, one modelling, exploring these beautiful collective dynamics in mitochondria across species. 🇳🇴, good pay, full staff benefits. [Shares much appreciated] Lab: www.jobbnorge.no/en/available... Modelling: www.jobbnorge.no/en/available...

And very new indeed, here's HyperLAU, an approach using tools from linear algebra to capture uncertainty in (phylogenetically embedded) accumulation models that supports flexible model structure and data inputs @jessirenz.bsky.social ! arxiv.org/abs/2502.05872 . Would love to chat about these! 3/3

Here's a "picture guide" (led by Ramon) describing approaches for these models and their inference, from cancer to evol bio and other applications arxiv.org/abs/2312.06824 (also see Ramon and colleagues' great repo of software approaches for EvAM github.com/rdiaz02/EvAM...) 2/

We've been thinking a lot about "accumulation models" lately -- inferring how systems accumulate features over time. May be mutations in a tumor, characters in evol bio, gene losses in oDNA. Here's an instance of the well-known Mk model that captures this picture academic.oup.com/bioinformati... 1/

I have rarely had such a helpful exchange about research as in these four days - even if it has provided more new questions than concrete answers... Many thanks to the organisers from the MPI CBG Dresden who made it possible for me to participate in this workshop with their financial support!

This year’s Mørketidens Mattemøte once again brought mathematicians from across Norway and the Nordic countries to @uitnorgesarktiske.bsky.social for two inspiring days of idea exchange and new connections. Thanks to Tromsø Forskningsstiftelse and Trond Mohn forskningsstiftelse for the support !

Happy about two days of getting new ideas and meeting new people at Mørketidens Mattemøte at the University of Tromsø! Besides seeing a lot of beautiful algebra, I also had the opportunity to give an insight into the connection between algebraic geometry and systems biology. Thanks to everyone!

Learning a lot, meeting cool people, having a lot of fun, enjoying an amazing hotel with amazing food in a winter wonder land, and even get some sun - it is difficult to put together a better week! Thanks to everyone who made the Geilo Winter School 2024 happen - and hopefully see you next year!
