Kitbashing games together using ai, i.e. putting Minecraft in Elden Ring will make the kids go "whee this is fun" for a minute, then they'll all get bored by things having no boundaries, substance, or meaning anything, and wonder where all the artists who make curated experiences went.

Same feelings here. Even with other models that aren't generating assets, it's still a super scuzzy and slippery slope. Falling back on ai to do your coding or using it to perform en masse decompilations/recompilations is not doing the hobby or game preservation any services.

No game should sell used for more than MSRP, inflation be damned, but we collectively let the market get out of control. If buyers stopped paying outrageous prices, scuzzy resellers would be forced to adapt or go out of business. 🤷‍♀️

If you choose to ignore the arcade, home computer gaming, the 3DO, the SEGA Saturn, the sunset years of the Super Famicom, the Neo Geo, or the Majesco-published days of Mega Drive, then sure, 1996 only had two options, like every other ignorant self-appointed game historian would have you believe.
