Currently, I'm in a role that deals with some edge case systems that are too complex for AI at the moment, and I have enough experience to oversee AI and not get replaced, for now. It's also already assumed you'll use AI in the field and places will adjust deadlines accordingly.

Overall, you still need skilled engineers to oversee what AI does. That said, when we get ASI, all bets are off. AI is definitely going to eliminate more jobs than it creates long term. We are going to need UBI or some new form of economics, eat the rich, and redistribute power.

You also still need humans applying software architecture and systems design to know what to ask the AI to make. Also, some systems are still too complex or edge case for AI to understand. AI does also facilitate in research, but you have to fact check...

I think we are at the point that we can't really predict what will happen. Really good futurists had some idea about how the internet would change things, but they didn't predict all of it. AI is going to change things in ways nobody can predict. I guess we just try our best to adapt. 🤷‍♀️
