You know your day is looking up when the cat throws up exactly in his food dish! Rather than the usual carpet, behind the couch, or down the heating register in the floor

My wife is frustrated as she exclaims, “What’s the point of buying baskets to declutter things, when I can’t actually put anything in the baskets??”

Took a pic of a vending machine in Germany. It literally had packages of sausage, tubes of wurst, jars of liver and goulash, beer, mustard, Capri Sun, kinder bueno ice cream sandwiches, pig knuckles, and soda. It was also patched with masking tape.

Surprisingly there was quite a strong contingent of cephalopod entries in the #MNStateFair. See @sarahmackattack.bsky.social even the Midwest loves squid

Kind of fun to do. And for me I count ‘visiting’ as a state as one I’ve either stayed overnight or spent extensive time in. For example, a dozen day trips all across Vermont means it counts. Driving across the edge of Indiana to go from Illinois to Michigan, does not count.
Map of states I’ve visited. Large gap in the south.

It hasn’t been the most productive variety for me, but the stripey sure does look nice as a squash

Our native #MN #pollinators at work. And note the chicken wire fencing to protect our coneflowers from the native rabbits…that love eating this and everything else in our garden.

Got to see a very cool hummingbird moth on our bee balm. Wish I could have gotten a better pic, but their similarities to real hummingbirds are uncanny. Always a treat to see the variety of native #insects in your garden

At my kids softball tourney in Buffalo, MN and there was a very very noisy killdeer squawking at all the kids going by a rear fence. After a bit of searching found the reason for its agitation. Probably a great place for a nest most of the time, but not during tournament weekend #birding #Minnesota

First #strawberry harvest of the year! Only took 3 years of plant growth and about $40 worth of rabbit/chipmunk proof fencing material to grow this half pint of strawberries

It’s baby #turtle season. Keep an eye out! Picked this painted turtle hatchling off the road while walking my kid to the bus. Let it go in the nearby marsh. How could a turtle be hatching so early you ask? Well in colder climates, eggs laid in late summer often overwinter and emerge early spring

Even in MN, you still have to live your life (especially w/kids), so spending some time on the real ice enjoying our mild afternoon of 2 degrees. Note the deep contraction cracks in the ice literally splitting apart from the cold temps

Found this fellow staring at me in the bathroom. A house pseudoscorpion that’s smaller than a sesame seed, but apparently deadly to dust mites. Never thought my house would have apex predators (of micro fauna) running around with massive claws. #Nature
