What's the lingua franca at Villa now? I assume it's still English but I think there are about 10 different first languages in the squad, and if you start counting second and third languages, there are many combinations. Coaches mostly speak Spanish of course, but Norwegian, too. Pretty fun. #AVFC

Beyond Emi's overall ability and occasional once-in-a-lifetime saves, I think his hunger and ambition to be the best was such a big part of Villa's recent rise that he might have been the 2nd-most influential person at the club after Emery. For dumb work reasons I once had to drive from Dallas to OKC then straight back. I couldn't have been more annoyed, but one of the local stations played old Dolly songs for like 90 straight minutes after the sun went down. I don't think anyone else could have made the Metroplex feel magical. RIP.

Maatsen and Hemmings have looked OK. Maatsen in particular really seems to be trying to get something, anything, to happen. McGinn and Buendia keep battling, they know no other way, but neither has been good. Everyone else has been poor. Burn the game film and go again next week. #AVFC

Excited, possibly overly so, about Goretzka. Strong, physical, versatile, good with the ball, very experienced. In my opinion the "Bundesliga tax" is real but only really applies to out and out attackers. It's a really smart piece of business on a free. Shades of Lindelof last year. #AVFC #UTV
