Who remembers October Sky? 🚀 That movie had no business making a bunch of us believe we could build a rocket in the backyard and somehow end up at NASA.

A weekend with good music is one of the best ways to recharge. Right now it’s Black Sabbath on Amazon Music. Some riffs just never get old. 🤘 music.amazon.com.mx/playlists/B0...

By the power of Grayskull… I HAVE THE DATA! ⚔️📊 He-Man aired 130 episodes in just two seasons, and 40+ years later we’re still quoting it. Some things trend. Some things become legends.

🎨 Artists are flexing today. #Painting is trending as Bluesky fills with watercolors, oils, acrylics, sketches, miniatures, and works in progress. Some trends are news. This one is creativity. 🖌️ #ArtSky

5/5 Most trends tell you what everyone is paying attention to. #NowPlaying tells a different story. It reminds you that even in a connected world, people still have wildly different soundtracks playing in their headphones. 🎧🎶

4/5 What stood out most was the range. Rock next to reggae. Jazz next to hip-hop. Indie next to electronic. Listeners, radio stations, and music communities from different countries all feeding into the same conversation.

3/5 Some of the songs making appearances included: 🎵 Total Eclipse of the Heart 🎵 Kiss of Life 🎵 Know the Ledge 🎵 Sharing Locations 🎵 Bathroom Skank Not because they were dominating the trend. Just because people were genuinely listening to them.

2/5 Scrolling through the trend felt less like looking at a chart and more like tuning an old radio. - Led Zeppelin showed up. - David Bowie showed up. - UB40, Alpha Blondy, Burning Spear, Neko Case, and dozens of others showed up too.

1/5 The story behind #NowPlaying today wasn't a hit song. It was the absence of one. No single artist or track took over the conversation. Everyone seemed to be listening to something different.

Today's #Caturday data was wonderfully predictable: 158 posts, 140 authors, and 65% included cat photos. Sometimes the internet works exactly as intended. 🐱📊

What a performance from both keepers tonight. 🇲🇽🇰🇷 Sometimes the scoreline tells one story, but the goalkeepers tell another. Save after save, both of them kept this match alive until the very end. Absolute masterclass between the posts. 🧤 #WorldCup

The more projects I build, the more I appreciate Data Engineering. Before dashboards, analytics, predictions, or AI, someone has to collect, move, clean, store, and serve the data reliably. That’s where the real foundation is built.

Missing records. Duplicate records. Broken pipelines. Delayed updates. A model can only learn from, or reason with, the information it receives. Bad data has a way of showing up in the final results.

Everyone is talking about AI models, prompts, and benchmarks. But many real-world AI problems start much earlier: with the data.

Knicks lead the Finals 3-1. But the total point differential through 4 games is just +8 for New York. The series looks one-sided. The data doesn’t. 🏀📊 #NBAFinals #DataScience

One thing that stood out: Mexico appeared in 215 posts despite only playing one match. A 2-0 win helps, but the data says people weren't just talking about football. They were talking about hosting the World Cup again. 🇲🇽⚽ History has a way of showing up in the timeline.

The USA-Paraguay match generated the biggest discussion. But the real story wasn't goals or standings. People talked about watching with friends, family traditions, packed bars, national pride, and the joy of yelling at a TV.

4,031 posts came from 2,864 unique people. That's only 1.4 posts per person. Translation: this wasn't a handful of super-fans posting all day. It was thousands of people joining the conversation.

#WorldCup #DataScience #Soccer I pulled 4,031 World Cup posts from Bluesky. The most interesting thing wasn't who won. It was how many different people showed up. 🧵👇

Unexpected highlight from the Mexico 🇲🇽 opening match: The paper sombreros. 😂 For a few minutes, the stadium looked like a giant data visualization of Mexican culture. 10/10 fan engagement. No notes. 🌮📊

Mexico has now appeared in the opening match of the World Cup in 1930, 2010, and 2026. But the coolest coincidence is this: 2010 opened with South Africa hosting Mexico. 2026 opened with Mexico hosting South Africa. Some stories are too perfect for a statistician to ignore. ⚽📊🇲🇽

Almost like someone reran the simulation 16 years later and flipped the home field variable. Football doesn’t usually give us symmetrical datasets like this.

Mexico may not have a World Cup trophy. But it has something unique: The World Cup started with Mexico on the field in 1930. Ninety-six years later, Mexico is still adding rows to one of the longest-running datasets in sports. 🇲🇽
000
Jerry Monteverde @jerrymonteverde.bsky.social · 10/06/2026
Another fun fact: Mexico has appeared in more World Cup opening matches than any other nation. Nearly a century later, Mexico keeps showing up when the tournament begins.

Jerry Monteverde @jerrymonteverde.bsky.social · 10/06/2026
One of the strangest patterns: From 1994 to 2018, Mexico reached the Round of 16 in 7 consecutive World Cups. Not a championship run. Not an early exit. Just remarkable consistency.

Jerry Monteverde @jerrymonteverde.bsky.social · 10/06/2026
Mexico’s best World Cup performances came in 1970 and 1986. Both times: 🏆 Quarterfinals Both times: 🏠 Hosted in Mexico Home field advantage isn’t just a theory. The data noticed too.

Since 1930, Mexico has appeared in 18 World Cups. - 60 matches played. - 17 wins. - 15 draws. - 28 losses. - 62 goals scored. Almost a century of football data in a single dataset.

Jerry Monteverde @jerrymonteverde.bsky.social · 10/06/2026
If you built a dataset containing every World Cup match and sorted it by date and kickoff time, the very first record would contain Mexico. As a data scientist, that’s a pretty cool place to be.

🧵⚽📊 Data nerd fact: The first row in World Cup history belongs to Mexico. July 13, 1930: 🇫🇷 France 4-1 Mexico 🇲🇽 Not only was it Mexico’s first World Cup match. It was the first World Cup match ever played.

The Knicks are still favorites at 2-1. But Game 4 suddenly feels massive. If New York wins, they're one game from a title. If San Antonio wins, this Finals becomes a best-of-three. That's where things get really interesting. 📈🏀

Fun fact: Game 1: Knicks win in San Antonio Game 2: Knicks win in San Antonio Game 3: Spurs win in New York Three games. Three road-team victories. Home court has been completely irrelevant so far.

A lot of headlines will focus on Wembanyama. But Stephon Castle's 23 points may end up being just as important. Championship series are often decided by the 2nd and 3rd scoring options.

Jerry Monteverde @jerrymonteverde.bsky.social · 09/06/2026
My favorite data point: After Game 2, the Spurs looked better than their 0-2 record suggested. Game 3 felt like the underlying numbers finally caught up to the result. Sometimes the scoreboard takes a little longer than the data. 📊
