None of these people actually care about the millions dying from USAID ending. They find it hilarious, actually.

FYI this is a huge part of what USAID actually did, which people like this have no idea about because they knew nothing about it until it closed.

like instead of having a bunch of american contractors and american goods supplying people, it is possible to build supply generation within those communities and offload continuation of that supply to the people who live there, especially over the course of decades.

Wait. A guy who plays video games for a living is ignorant about how an international government aid program actually works? But he's so loud and confident!

i am aware of how this process works and, yes, if you ignore the fact that there is a geopolitical risk team and a Maps policy team at work here, and that they have historically been willing to push back on, e.g., Crimea, then the fast path will do this. but you have to decide to make it happen.

a huuuuuuuuge amount of the criticism of usaid from the left is that there was no confidence that it wouldn't just disappear. now it has disappeared, killing ~millions of people. that this was fairly easily able to happen was the criticism many people on the left had of it.

like it isn't bad for a nation to extend soft power, it's bad for a nation to make millions of people dependent on their whim to continue extending soft power, because they might change their mind at any moment. people wanted aid to go through channels which couldn't result in this.

it is weird to shit on the left for this because like, the way usaid was set up has visibly resulted in massive amounts of death. this doesn't demonstrate that it was good; it validates a great amount of the criticism of usaid. it is not a sensible time to make up reasons to shit on the left.

In the midst of an awful lot of ever-so-sophisticated equivocating and oh-so-thoughtful-chin-stroking and too-clever-by-half-over-thinking, I just want to say, simply and unequivocally and for the record: The Resistance Libs Were Right.

Another reason it can be difficult to trust is that they seem more interested in hurting Israel than helping Palestinians (or at least are naive) re: weapons transfers.

Asimov is funnier than I imagined. Even his “predictions” at the end have aged well. Hard to imagine the moon landing having only happened 11 years ago. youtu.be/cIB1b_8hqB0

More Americans have been killed in the Iran war Trump started than in the Afghan withdrawal Biden was handed and completed. The implications for America’s geopolitical situation is much worse with attacking Iran than leaving Afghanistan. But going by tone of coverage, one would think the opposite.

just sneering decadence. dilettantes incapable of participating in politics who believed that their duties as citizens could always be delegated to their mothers.
