Hi #GenHour, how is your week going? I had two distant cousins contact me this week asking me how we were connected. I love it when others discover my tree. I have so much to share with them about our shared ancestry!

Hi #GenHour, how has your week been? My exciting news is a cousin sent me a photo of my 3rd great-grandfather, Meyer Hollander. He was born in the 1840s in Gorlice in Galicia. I'd never seen a photo of him before!

In my latest video, I discuss the announcement made earlier this week that Y-DNA analysis has arrived on MyHeritage, courtesy of a collaboration with FamilyTreeDNA. This is a significant development, and one that I hope raises the profile of Y-DNA testing in the #genealogy community. #GenHour 2/3

That's a good question. I don't know. If it does it would make it a lot easier to utilize Neighbors! Ancestry GEDCOMs don't typically include street addresses, which is frustrating.

Amazing! You definitely should check it out. It's a fantastic map. I'm trying to find more historic city maps like that where the property owners are listed. They are such a great resource. #GenHour

I've also created a Calendar feature on TreeLab. You can see birth, wedding, and death anniversaries from your family tree on a monthly calendar. Customize your calendar view to filter for the family members that matter to you. And you can export it as an .ics file! #GenHour 5/6

I had an amazing discovery when using Neighbors. My 4th G-GF, Jacob Labishiner, lived in Albany, NY. I plotted his residence from the 1880 US Census using Neighbors, and then layered in a 1876 historical map. I realized that his name was listed on the map as a property owner! #GenHour 3/6
Neighbors plotted my ancestor's residence and a historical map confirmed he owned the property!

Neighbors will require users to put in some work, but it's worth it! With Neighbors, you can add street addresses to profiles on your tree and they will plot on a map. This is perfect for seeing who from your family lived close to each other. You can also layer in historical maps! #GenHour 2/6

Hi #GenHour, how has your week been? I've made exciting genealogy progress this week. Thanks to the additional indexing of records by JewishGen, I was able to locate the death records for three of my direct ancestors in Slovakia. I was able to order digital copies of all the records too!

The best part: load your tree, and TreeLab matches your ancestors to the maps of the places and years they lived. Open a map and you'll see whose events fall inside it, with their places marked right on the old streets. Check out the Map Room on #TreeLab here: treelab.jernealogy.com 2/2

I've added a feature in DNA Planner in #TreeLab called "Find best testers" that identifies your oldest generation living relatives that should be prioritized with autosomal DNA testing. My wife's great uncle ranked #1 on her list, so I'm glad I got it done! treelab.jernealogy.com #GenHour 2/2

Hi #GenHour, how is your week going? I came back a few days ago from a trip visiting my wife's family in South America. My biggest #genealogy win? Getting my wife's great uncle to take a DNA test. He is the last of his generation and his testing will help with finding connections. 1/2

I've added an initial enhancement that should include marriages of differing generations. I've also added a "Repeat Ancestors" subtab as well. Thank you for the suggestion! It was such a good idea that it couldn't wait 😊

Jeremy Lehmann @jernealogy.bsky.social · 09/07/2026
You're correct. Let me see what I can do to enhance the feature to include marriages between relatives of differing generations. I know I've got a few of those too in my tree.

Jeremy Lehmann @jernealogy.bsky.social · 08/07/2026
Have you checked out the Pedigree Collapse tab in TreeLab? I knew about some cousin marriages in my family, but it identified others I didn't know about.

Jeremy Lehmann @jernealogy.bsky.social · 08/07/2026
Wow! That's amazing to have such a geographic concentration in your ancestry. I don't have anything quite like that in my tree, although there are a couple places where my ancestors lived for 200+ years (in northeastern France and eastern Poland).
110
Jeremy Lehmann @jernealogy.bsky.social · 08/07/2026
That's great. So glad you are enjoying TreeLab! No need to worry about copyright rules. The map layers are all open source maps that can be used for any purpose.

Very cool! I have 32 direct ancestors that immigrated to the US. When did your earliest ancestor immigrate to the US? Mine is 1839, which is quite early for Jewish ancestry but still way later than 1776. The Migration Map In TreeLab will detail this info for anyone in your tree! #GenHour

Thanks for highlighting this for me! Geocoding locations around the world has been difficult, and I had not properly geocoded for British Indian place names. I've implemented a fix that should hopefully do so now. Let me know if it is working now for you!
