Let us not have to /think/ about the morality of a situation, would it not be easier to just be /told/ (sarcasm) The severe drop in morally grey stories is, imo, a big reflection of how our society refuses to take the time/effort to engage with ethics consciously.

In general, I do get somewhat tired of the adaptations of major heroic stories of myth where they get rid of the horrible things these "heroes" do. We're so obsessed with white and black narratives that it is no surprise we lose the capacity to think in nuance these days.

His character is just a way for us to tell the story of the fall of human decency, but in a way that almost feels passive. Like they tell us he has guilt and he made choices but the way the story is /shown/ to us, it doesn't feel like that. It feels out of his control, it should have been mixed up

Yeah that Cyclops bit really put me off, and that's when I realized they were severely changing how Odysseus is seen morally. We see him as consistently trying to do the right thing and do not show the transition into making harder choices; it just feels like the hard choices befell him, not

TBH I knew the Cylops bit was gonna upset me when I learned he wouldn't say his ICONIC "nobody" line but it REALLY fell flat by entirely taking away the Polythemus' ability to properly speak to them. It feels no worse than killing cattle, arguably, it feels justified through our eyes.

Calypso was very...meh. Got no lotus eaters though lotus was being ate-- And then the giants were okay LMFAO Mostly I just like Circe's scene, and I think the Cylops coulda been great if they let him talk because they basically made him no better than a beast, therefore easier to kill (morally)

I just want an Odyssey that includes the gods and monsters and not as a metaphor for the morality of man. I'd kill for a version of the Odyssey that operates more as a criticism of the gods/religion, perhaps, but either way, I mostly just want magic LMFAO Either way, it was a good movie

Saw the Odyssey; it was a good movie...But I have some opinions: 1. No Gods changes the story 2. Odysseus is treated very consistently within his morals, and that drastically changes the story 3. The version of the story in the movie is more so a commentary on humanity and change, which is fine tbh
