I've started working on a pipeline to rapidly generate character portraits for my game, the primary art asset I need besides UI icons. Here are a couple I've made so far to learn. The modern tooling for digital characters blows away the HASH: Animation Master stuff I learned back in 1998!

I've been hard at work on the holiday break adding new features to The Veiled City and refining existing ones. There is now a constellation of power struggle between the forces in the world, and a tasks/mission system for tutorials and daily/weekly rewards.

I finally had a couple of hours to paint Jobie from #Moonstone. His special move is "play dead." He also has an ability called "cunning plan" that lets him put down a moonstone he's carrying and then die (the Mortician can bring him back). He's hilarious.

I've been painting villagers for a minis game called Guards at Traitor's Toll, which involves you controlling city guard in a fantasy city who solve crimes and chase down suspects. Here are a few of the figures I've done so far. I have back stories for all of them in the alt text.

Our Lordship Death's Highest Priest Borenth: "Repent! Our deaths draw nearer with each passing breath." Not exactly a popular religion in the city.
Doctor Beaks: "Amputations are half-off this week." Or you can take your chances with the clerics and priests at the temple, but they're going to charge you an arm *and* a leg!

Matilhda Stumbletoe can be found described with her husband in another image.

Here we have town gravediggers Albrecht Graber and the Graber Brothers. Albrecht has been a digger for over 40 years. Funny thing is, nobody can recall Albrecht marrying anyone. One day, Albert was seen doing his work a with a couple of strangely pale toddlers in tow. The brothers have been in the family business since they could hold shovels, and if the townsfolk of Traitor's Toll mention their strange ghoulish pallor, they don’t do it within the earshot of Albrecht.

The Fishmonger in Yellow. He never speaks; only bartering with nods and shakes of the head. His wares are surprisingly fresh, even when they are of a species from far away waters. Best not to think too much about it.

Here we have the halfling cook Bucco Stumbletoe and one of his many patrons at the Serpent and Cockerel Tavern, Grom Talish. Grom is an orc whose mercenary and caravan guard work brings him into Traitor's Toll on the regular.

The Serpent and Cockerel is known to be quite a rowdy place after dark, but a great place to get a quiet bite during the day. Bucco is a master fromager and not bad at making mead either. His wife, Mathilda Stumbletoe, is a fine baker and works double duty as a bouncer keeping the riffraff in line with a trusty rolling pin. Matihilda was seen in a previous post.

Bucco quote: "Bah, customers. You can never trust them around your best cheeses."

Mathilda quote: "Settle down or I'll flatten you like I flattens out me dough!"

Grom quote: "Halfling! ANOTHER!"

I've been having fun painting some Moonstone miniatures finally. I love scruffy little idiot goblins. Really happy with how Doug the Flatulent turned out. Enjoyed using some rust effects paints for the first time. These sculpts are just so expressive and Froud-like.

A while back, I decided to do something BIG for Miniature 50, my goal for the year of 2024! Yay! We did it. So for tonight, we've got a giant swamp troll with a few guest star goblins from earlier this year. This took me 4 hours, start to finish. The miniature is from Artisan Guild.

Miniatures 46 and 47 for 2024. A couple of dumb butt gobbo archers that ain't gonna make it 3 rounds with the PCs. I'm not really a fan of "orc green" as a skin tone for my goblins. I tried toning this one down 50%, but still too "AUGH GREEN!" for me. I like the yellower greens I think.

Miniature 45 of 2024. Just a goblin with a flail almost as big as he is. My drybrush undercoat was a little too severe on this one. the slapchop method is a bit uneven for me sometimes as I am not a good drybrusher. May just go back to zenithal instead.

Here's miniature 44 for 2024. This is a plague knight, and I wanted him to have some weird greens in his tunic. I expect when I paint one of these with visible skin, it'll be gross and diseased. This guy just has some mushrooms growing out of his arm.

Here are "miniatures" 40 to 43 for 2024. Experimenting with the subtractive weathering medium Newsh from Monument Hobbies, and working the airbrush to paint base colors. May, if I get REALLY bored, add some highlights, but it's terrain and I have soooo much more of it to paint.

Miniature 36 of 2024. Another goblin (for some reason, I love painting goblins). I must have repainted his face 3 or 4 times, trying to get the right color and amount of red in the nose. Next time I'll do my red and paint my green on top of it.
