'tis the season of getting cold emails from the boldest phd applicants. In the interest of fairness for those who did not know they could ask, please DM if you'd like an inside perspective on AI/NLP at CMU. (Or share with those you know who might!)

really enjoying COLM 2025, everyone keeps telling me it feels like ICLR or neurips 10 years ago... so good vibes at an AI conferences only happens once a decade?

how do we even handle tech that's this fragmented, where every layer of the stack wants to be the one to deliver it? are there historical examples where this gets resolved nicely?

Last year we started a project to download and preserve public data. lil.law.harvard.edu/blog/2025/01... Since saving public data is in the news today — but is always needed — let’s talk about what you can do to help.

I love reading work that draws on ideas outside NLP to examine and amplify actual practitioner perspectives – so crucial as we work toward purposeful & humanistic AI. We saw similar trends re: de-contextualization and loss of document narrative in upcoming research led by @siree.sh

Mosaic v0.12 is out: database-powered scalable, interactive visualization! 📈 One new addition is support for dynamic changes in the backing data. Move between smaller and larger samples to balance speed and comprehensive coverage.

Does look like some of this is in progress actually: github.com/bluesky-soci... If they go with the "Add starter pack to list" then I guess we'll end up with a version of merging. Something like "Follow all users in list" would be nice too

Added you! Thought I had done so already. I do wish there was some functionality for merging/managing lists and starter packs as essentially the same thing

It's helped me get nonlinear thinking onto the page quickly -- like when brainstorming, planning a system, or mapping out a project. I like having a note per idea, but I disliked writing individual notes and having to link them posthoc. The canvas lets me see the overview & build links as I go
