The term "single use software" currently lives rent free in my head. People use LLMs to create software specific for their needs. But neither can other people use it (hardcoded variables, no rights management, too specific), nor do they use it again (too […] [Original post on social.luca.run]

AI does not disrupt. AI entrenches. AI turns money into more money; AI turns investment into dependency. We are living in a funhouse mirror of that right now where the combination of overly-plausible demos and first-one's-free incentives are swamping the actual balance-sheet math. But the […]

@davidgerard TF did I just read? This feels like someone took a bad 90s stand up routine about how men are like THIS, but women are like THIS, took it seriously, and has built a worldview about relationships off of it. Just shallow observations about how relationships are hard dressed up in a […]

@davidgerard "dark creative themes" is such a wiggle term. Like they want to allow BSDM scenarios with the digital waifu but don't want people setting up LLM torture porn websites with their bot. But setting up a bunch of LLMs outputting text like they were characters in a SAW film reacting to […]

@davidgerard Maybe, but from the papers I'm reading in general it feels more like a cost saving measure. You can throw some bots at labeling the data and now you don't need to come up with funds to pay experts to label the data (or even "experts" like "my grad students") Arguably using an LLM […]

@davidgerard Like, if there was a human review step in there to see whether what the bot did was reasonable it still wouldn't be the best but it would be better than just trusting the bot. And more aligned with how ML has historically been used prior to the LLM "revolution" I suspect that the […]
