The core concept of Burn Down Master’s House as a work of historical fiction based on slave stories of violent rebellion was good. I felt the execution lacking when compared to other works in this genre (Everett or Whitehead). It was so very gruesome. The comeuppance was satisfying. 3.5 ⭐️s #booksky

I finally finished the lengthy Ember in the Ashes series with this 4th and final book. What a wild ride! I loved this series but it is not for the faint of heart. While there was a lot of death and destruction, the end left me content. Would recommend for any fantasy reader. 4.9 ⭐️s #booksky

I was not disappointed with the 3rd book in this YA fantasy series by Tahir. The characters are well-developed and complicated. It is action packed. I have been so busy with a myriad of things going on in my life that it took me awhile to finish but I’m excited for the final book. 4.9 ⭐️s #booksky

I thoroughly enjoyed this gothic thriller set in the 80s with flashbacks to the late 1920s. A classic whodunnit that kept me page turning and a dizzying amount of twists at the end. This was the first Riley Sager book I have read and it won’t be the last. A solid 4 ⭐️s. #booksky

I had almost forgotten about this series but the 2nd book was superb. I liked it better than the first. The characters are rich, the pace is quick, and I couldn’t put it down toward the end. Can’t wait for the 3rd. Sabaa Tahir’s writing is thrilling! Highly recommend. #booksky

I’m a sci-fi fan don’t think The Murderbot Diaries are for me. It took too long to finish All Systems Red for because frankly I was bored. I didn’t understand why one team killed DeltFall and wanted to kill the bots’ unit. Does it get better? Ugh 2.5 ⭐️s. #booksky

My reading slowed down the past couple of weeks because I was unexpectedly forced to move. This was a nice easy one to read bits and pieces of through the nightmare. It was a nice ending to a witchy romantasy that was packed with action and alliance switching. Entertaining. 3.8 ⭐️s #booksky

Hadn’t read a good witchy romantasy in awhile. Heartless Hunter the 1st book in the Crimson Moth series fit the bill. Witches, witch hunters, action, romance, heartbreak. It had all of that and was a fun, frivolous read. I look forward to the 2nd book. 3.9 ⭐️s #booksky

The HYPE is real on this one. I couldn’t put it down. Natalie is a character I loved to hate. It’s also thought-provoking and raises so many issues with white Christian nationalist patriarchy and gender ideology. Also fair warning-it is ultimately sad. 4.9 ⭐️s #booksky

I hated this book for the first third. The writing style was pretentious, I hated the characters, the war descriptions were too brutal. But then it grew on me. The never ending sentence became understandable within the context of the story. The prose was beautiful but gross. 4 ⭐️s #booksky

This was my first Jodi Picoult book & it was near perfect. Elephants are my favorite animal. The way she weaved real-world research on elephant behavior and endangerment with a heart-wrenching murder mystery involving mother daughter relationships kept me page turning. 4.8 ⭐️s #booksky

Hard to believe but I had never read 1984. Everyone should. I picked up Chain-Gang All-Stars a few weeks ago. Put it down for a little while because it was intense and another book with a waitlist came in. I’m glad I picked it back up.This is an all too real possibility for the American carceral system. Hard to get through but recommend. 4 ⭐️s #booksky

After reading The Reformatory which is one of the best books I have ever read, I wanted to read more from Due. The Good House did not disappoint although I thought it could be a tad bit shorter. It was a good horror story mixed with spiritual and voodoo elements. A solid 4 ⭐️s #booksky

I finished The Nickel Boys by Colson Whitehead. As expected, it broke me. This is the 2nd book based on the Dozier “school” for boys I have read. It well researched historical fiction and beautifully written ugliness and horror with a twist at the end. Should be required reading. 4.8 ⭐️s. #booksky

Finished The Diamond Eye by Kate Quinn this weekend. I enjoyed this one for the most part but thought the other books in her series about women in WWII were better. Interesting story about a Russian woman sniper who killed a bunch of Nazis that was largely based on her memoir. 3.9 ⭐️s. #booksky

I ❤️Tiffany D Jackson. Allegedly was a tough emotional read for me. It was an all too realistic psychological thriller about what happens to children with no stable adult support in their lives who get trapped in state supervision. The ending shocked and confused me. 4.2 ⭐️s #booksky

Finished The Poppy War by RF Kuang this evening and I am shook. I enjoyed it but the war scenes and themes of genocide and mass rape was tough to get through. I did like the mix of history and fantasy in the novel and will read the next in the series. 4.4 ⭐️s. #booksky
