Here’s a pic of the leaves of the beetroot plant, in case anyone is wondering what I’m talking about. I can’t believe how much food we humans just waste when we only use the root..!
Closely bunched bright pink stems growing out of the soil, the top two thirds of the stems are surrounded by leaves. The stems and veins on the leaves are pink while the leaves themselves are green.

Not sure who needs to hear this but if you cut out the central maroon stem from beetroot leaves, they are like beetroot flavoured celery, and you can add them to homemade coleslaw and MAKE IT PINK AND IT IS LUSH. The green beetroot leaves can also be added to salads or cooked like spinach.
White bread sandwich on a white plate covered in a questionable bright pink liquid, which has soaked into the bread. It’s actually the watery mayo liquid from the coleslaw, which has been stained by the beetroot stalks. The ham, cheese and coleslaw sandwich has some pieces of coleslaw spilling out onto the plate.

Found this slide rule in the charity shop. Going to blow the eldest kid’s mind later. It will also come in handy in the coming apocalypse… well, at least that’s my excuse for buying it! #genx #science #AcademicSky #prep ?
A white and green slide rule (a ruler with sliding bar used to calculate logarithmic and quadratic equations) in original packaging on a blue background. An attached price label says £2.50p.

Slightly doxing myself but these are the pics I took yesterday on my way out of my public library. Sometimes nature just blows me away with how beautiful it is.

I’ve been having a bed day today, otherwise known as “post-exertion malaise” but I wanted to share this bread I made yesterday. Apricot and almond. I had to chop the almonds as we didn’t have sliced ones. 100% worth the effort, would do the same again. (I never learn) ♿️ #disabled
A slice of bread, with bite marks taken out of one side. The bread has a golden brown crust and paler crumb with pieces of apricot and lumps of almond distributed randomly within the slice of bread.

Today was a good day. I was working at my local library, and only one person showed up for scrabble group so I joined in. And played possibly my best game ever, against a formidable opponent! I forgot to take a picture of the finished board but I got a half way pic.
A scrabble board and letter rack with the tiles; S, M, E, J, D, T, B.

I’m growing quite fond of my little blue gremlin aka the demented owl #furbie although I’m a bit disappointed they haven’t shown any properly evil tendencies yet. Quite boring so far, but I guess I have enough entertainment in my life already!
A bright blue furry toy with big round eyes like an owl, a small yellow beak and big plastic ears like a gremlin or elf, sits on a desk next to a notepad and pen. The eyes are half closed.

What are they supposed to do? Is this normal? (The furbie behaviour that is, I know I’m not). Should I name it? Or does it have a name already? Its eyes did light up, and it moved and bent forwards, so it does appear to be functioning, but after the initial movement it is still and silent…

Possibly about to make a terrible decision by powering up a #furbie . Are they really spawned by the devil himself, possessed by evil spirits or just harmless children’s toys? Did the thunderstorms yesterday influence my decision to buy this? Possibly.
A blue furbie ‘toy’ with casing removed, revealing the furbie’s battery compartment, lies beside a row of batteries and a screwdriver set.

This is my kind of content!
A bridge across a river with cowes on it. The cowes are only visible from the neck up and are all peering over the parapet of the bridge so there is a line of cow heads along the edge of the bridge.

How are people managing ‘The Doom’? Today I have mostly been resting, sleeping, listening to music, interspersed with obligatory cat and dog videos. If you are feeling down, this is your reminder to go do something fun, healthy or meaningful. Don’t let the Doom get you down! Xxx
Screen grab of forum chat describing the creation of a “Doom calendar”, similar to an advent calendar with little pick-me-up items for helping people get through the days between new years and spring break. This idea was adopted by the whole office and then department.

Reposting to the #disability feed as I forgot earlier. Anyone got any tips on adjusting my wheelchair so I don’t repeat this rather undignified dismount? I know it’s bad. I asked my dad to adjust it and he did a terrible job. But is was terrible to start with, the seat was far too high.

I’m not usually into women’s clothes but I found a cool dress in the sale that fits perfectly and has pockets. It is very YELLOW. I love it. Out of spoons now, and probably tomorrow’s as well, but I’m happy.
Close up of yellow fabric with a flower print of tiny petals and leaves in white, black, brown, dark green, pink and yellow. On a yellow back ground. It is indeed very yellow.

I love seeing birds face on, they look so funny. Like this one from boingboing.net/2018/03/13/r...
Photo of a small bird brown bird with a yellow head, facing directly towards the camera. The bird’s markings and angle of the shot give the impression of a downward mouth with the beak forming a nose. The wings are not visible, making the bird look like a round blob. Photo by Finnish photographer Ossi Saarinen.

Looking through the Public Domain Image Archive and found this. I had an astronomy book when I was a kid, with a set of postcards. This was one of the images. It is from a collection called "Urania’s Mirror; or, a View of the Heavens" from 1825. pdimagearchive.org/images/53e3e...
Star chart with side view of a unicorn leaping, both front legs held high in the air, with a small dog on it's back. They represent the constellations Monoceros and canis minor, the position of the stars is superinposed on them. Beneath them is atelier typographique, with an image of a printing press. Nearby stars are also marked, and fine lines deliniate between them and the constellations partially visible; Hydra, Orion, Lepus, Canis Major, Argo navis.

Did you know you can turn off DMs in Bluesky? Go to chat, hit the menu bars top right and you should get this settings screen. Change it to ‘No one’.

As you can see, for the Teemill store I really branched out theme wise and included all my favourite things. For the biking and nature designs I used Teemill's design software, so they are not available anywhere else! This one makes me chuckle every time I look at it.
A navy blue t'shirt with a picture in the shape of a Mountain biker's helmet. The picture shows an outline of a man and bike in mid air. The only part of the bike still in contact with the man are the handle bars. The text underneath reads, "Anything you can do, I can do bleeding".

If you are not in the US but you want to support my efforts to pay the rent, I also have an Etsy shop. There aren't any phone cases on there, but lots of tees (which you won't find on my Amazon store) and mugs (some overlap with Amazon). This one is my favourite, for reasons that should be obvious..
Mug with orange and white bands looking very similar to the Penguin publisher's 'Orange paperback' books. Positioned where the title would normally go are the words 'I'm trying to read" and the Author part says "Go away". There is also a little penguin and a diamond with "Penguin book" written in it to make it as obvious as possible what is being referenced. Basically as close as I could get to my memory of the original (there are multiple different versions in reality) but without infringing on copywrite.

Here’s a peak into what I’ve been working on lately. I’m kinda struggling a bit (I know a lot of folks are) so if you like the look of my designs please give me a like and share and help me get this venture off the ground. Links in the next, what do we call these?, bleets? Skyts? 🧵
A colourful phone case with a black and white image of a Spaniel wearing sunglasses, surrounded by a different coloured wedges which radiate out from the dog's head, making him look like the sun with rays of light eminating from it. The colours are not arranged like a rainbow, as they go yellow, followed by ochre, orange, dark red and then a dark greenish blue, but are probably still too woke looking for any bigots who you might be unfortionate enough to come across.

Why has no-one ever written an ode to chip butties like Burns did for haggis? I feel like this is an oversight. I’m having a spiritual experience here!

Wow what a day… on a lighter note I got my ‘new’ glasses (old frames with new lenses) today and I can see properly!! And they found me cases which match the colour of the frames. It’s only a small thing but I really appreciated the attention to detail 👌😀

It's an #X parrot now! And this meme is even more relevant than the first time I shared it lol #Xodus #Twitter #Bluesky

Fuck no, not a chance, that shit is a nightmare hiding many many smaller nightmares and if I ever encounter it in a house again it will be too soon.. please let me refresh your memory of how awful it was
A bedroom with partially assembled furniture pushed into one corner. Although it is daylight outside the corner is in deep shadow. The walls are dark brown narrow wood panels, and the carpet is a barely discernible pink.A light fitting hanging by its wires, which don’t appear to comply with normal conventions. The bracket of the fitting is attached directly to the 5mm thick tongue and groove wooden panelling, which appears to have been varnished with the light fitting in situ as the surrounding wood is several shades darker.A kitchen with a wood effect lino floor, white units with a dark granite effect worktop, with walls, stairwell and under stairs areas all clad in dark wood panels. An area around the hob has been wallpapered over the wood, and then painted pale green. This room has an impression of some light entering due to the wood panelling only covering the lower half of the wall, the upper half being painted pale cream. However the dark pink carpet and the imposing chimney stack of dark brown varnished bricks with gas fire and brick surround overwhelms the otherwise only moderately dingy interior.

Throwback to the day I cosplayed as the beamish boy from the Jabberwocky poem just because it was awesome
Huge green monster with wings, antennas, a tail and neck like a snake and a round head with huge buck teeth hovers above a long-haired boy in a blue tunic with orange leggings, who is wielding a sword almost as long as he is tall.

I feel like my first post should be something more auspicious, but here is a ‘rubic’s’ style cube with only 3 sides that I finally managed to solve.
