🔥 Three weeks to publication day! 🔥 You can pre-order This Slavery in all good bookshops (or on the bad one where it is heavily discounted) or even from our website. You could ask your library to stock it. We’re so excited for folk to see it after years on the drawing board
A panel from This Slavery graphic novel,in which Rachel is being arrested. As the police lead her from her terraced home into the snowy night, her mother and sister, Hester, watch helplessly from the doorway. Behind them stands the top-hatted man Hester has just agreed to marry.
“Thank God you’re out of this scramble at least,” says Mother.
“Aye,” says Rachel, “She’s chosen her prison bars and I’ve found my own. Well neither of us escape this slavery, Will we? Good night.”

On a red background with organic white flourishes, cream and green scrolls bear the words UNITY IS STRENGTH. In the centre, two hands grasp in a firm handshake. A twisted golden rope hangs down each side, and the whole thing has the air of a traditional Union banner. On an ornate gold and purple background, cream and green scrolls bear the words NO-ONE IS FREE UNTIL EVERYONE IS EQUAL. The scrolls have rich curled ribbon flourishes. The design was inspired by our suffragette graphic novel NO SURRENDER and reminds us all that it’s our humanity is what counts, not what’s in our pants. On a dark green and gold ornate background, red scrolls bear the words DON’T LET THE BASTARDS GRIND YOU DOWN. The scrolls have curled ribbon flourishes with a medieval air. In the centre a hand holds aloft a flaming torch. The whole mood is that of a traditional union banner, and of course the BASTARDS are everywhere…on an ornate dark red and gold background, green scrolls bear the words MANY HANDS MAKE LIGHT WORK. The scrolls have curled ribbon flourishes with a medieval air. Thirteen hands are arranged in a circle, each holding the wrist of the next. They are each different and distinctive in age, skin tone, jewellery, tattoos etc and present an image of strength in diversity

The 1921 UK Census has been released, it's striking how many wrote their occupation as 'out of work' or 'no work.' Industrial unrest and an unemployment rate of 20%.
