Use of live facial recognition by police at Kings Cross today seems a wild interpretation of ”alternative routes available”. There‘s no signposted alternative, it seems you couldn’t take the tube, and by the time I was close enough to scan the QR to see the map I was in line of sight of the camera.
British Transport Police privacy notice sign in front of a tube gate saying “live facial recognition in this area” and “we take your privacy very seriously”.Live facial recognition camera in Kings Cross Station opposite the sign

Disgusting reporting by BBC using a tiny number of cases to suggest widespread abuse of a system which routinely denies LGBTQIA+ individuals asylum and forces them back into environments of persecution. This article massively distorts the reality of the situation. 1/ www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

The BBC writes “About 95% of Afghans who arrived in the UK on a study visa then applied for asylum since 2021”. It doesn’t provide the context that in 2021 the Taliban retook control of Afghanistan. We’d expect our Afghan students to apply for asylum then, right? www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

the intensity of my anger at those who would criminalize the homeless — a population literally created by the greed and callousness of the ruling class — is very hard to contain. it was you who dismantled the safety net. if you don’t like the results, put it back
