Also making the annual joke about reporting this seagull to family services (we would never)
A seagull nesting in a tiny metal cage on top of a pole in the middle of a river. The pole is also holding up an orange sign. Somewhat ironically, there are bird spikes on the sign

Such a joy to be involved in this magical public artwork ‘RAIN,’ by Laura Wills and Will Cheesman, and wonderful to see it all lit up at the launch last night. Stunning work. Go check it out, in the dark if you can: www.npsp.sa.gov.au/culture_and_...

“Beaked, furred, fanged, tusked, clawed, hooved, snouted, they will settle in us…” Revisiting Malouf’s An Imaginary Life. Queer ecofiction circa 1978
A page from David Malouf’s An Imaginary Life: “But I know now that this is the way. Slowly I begin the final metamorphosis. I must drive out my old self and let the universe in. The creatures will come creeping back—not as gods transmogrified, but as themselves. Beaked, furred, fanged, tusked, clawed, hooved, snouted, they will settle in us, re-entering their old lives deep in our consciousness. And after them, the plants, also themselves. Then we shall begin to take back into ourselves the lakes, the rivers, the oceans of the earth, its plains, its forested crags with their leaps of snow. Then little by little, the firmament. The spirit of things will migrate back into us. We shall be whole. Only then will we have some vision of our true body as men.”

Chilling stuff from the premier’s dept www.abc.net.au/news/2026-04...
In response to the email, department executive Clare Mockler thanked Mr Hobba for his "comprehensive consideration" and asked him for his "assessment" of other invited writers "that would fall into the category, on either side of the discourse, whose inclusion could be deemed as contrary to supporting community cohesion".

Constellations: Not Writers Week begins tomorrow. Over 100 authors are participating in more than 50 events across 20 venues. And we have raised enough donations to pay them all ASA rates, plus print these paper programs. bit.ly/constellationsfestival for details January Tiser oped for scale

For goodness’ sake Pete stop digging and start apologising
He said he did not "take responsibility for" AWW's cancellation. "That's a function of a bunch of authors making their own decisions and Louise Adler and her role in that," Mr Malinauskas said.
