From the #AppsPlantSci Phylogenetic Networks issue Ancient hybridization & #phylogenetic discordance: Exploring evolutionary complexity in #Asteraceae (Ellestad, @erikarmoore11.bsky.social @carolsiniscalchi.bsky.social @jennifermandel.bsky.social et al) doi.org/10.1002/aps3... #evolution #botany
Phylogenetic relationships and inferred hybridization events at the base of the full nuclear phylogeny. Tribes are colored by subfamily as indicated in the legend on the bottom left. The left main tree shows the species relationships as bifurcating black edges, representing well-supported phylogenetic splits. Colored edges represent hybridization events inferred from six individual subtree analyses using PhyloNetworks (SNaQ), with colors corresponding to each subtree shown in the panels on the right. Hybrid edges connect two parental lineages to a single hybrid node, representing gene flow into the recipient lineage.

Two great conferences our group attended this past week: #PAG33 an international plant agriculture genomics conference and #TICA Digital Frontiers, a sunflower family-focused exploration of international collaborations and cutting-edge science. Plus a fantastic tour of the herbarium and labs at BRIT

🌻 Sharing this preprint where we assembled 3 new chromosome-level genomes, including the first for Asteraceae's South American sister Calyceraceae! Asteraceae uses all the tricks when it comes to being the most ecologically successful family of flowering plants. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...

We love plants! Especially edible ones! At Kemmons Wilson Culinary Institute, at the University of Memphis, they are growing an assortment of herbs and lettuces in the hydroponics lab. Some have been used in HPRM 2012 Introduction to Culinary class. Yum!#universityofmemphis#plants#herbs#vegetables

The sky is currently not blue. But the future is bright! MWN is an all-digital local weather provider focusing solely on the Memphis metro, and we've been going strong for over 20 years! With time, we'll increase our pace here. For now we're in all the usual places! #FirstPost
