Just cancelled my lab’s in-person participation at a conference in the United States. I’m so disappointed and sad that it has come to this. I agonized for days over this and got some very good advice to arrive at this decision. What a sad and unnecessary situation. #canada #academicchatter #ecology

What a thrill of a lifetime to get to speak with Robin Wall Kimmerer this evening. I hear some folx couldn’t get into the zoom, but the will be posting the recording on the West Vancouver Library website soon and I’ll be sure to post a link when it is! I can’t believe I just got to do that! #ecology

The hope of starting seeds has begun. I love this setup. It’s over the furnace vent too so no need for heat mats. Tomatoes, peppers, flowers for now. Squash, cukes and herbs in a few weeks. #gardening #foodsecurity

This week I received confirmation of my registration under Canada’s Indian Act. A mix of emotions comes with it. I only share because my identity was made the business of other, laterally violent people last year & to shine a light on the fact many of us are still finding our way home. Onwards.

I try to find something to admire about every invasive plant. The rooting ability of Himalayan blackberry is one such quality. Imagine if we all had the ability to reach out and ground ourselves wherever we go. I could do without the thorns. #whatintheweedwednesday #ecology #invasivespecies

The reckoning of colonial land management is upon us. Yes, climate is a factor, but it is a mistake to let it be the scapegoat. Fire adapted landscapes devoid of cultural fire for 150 plus years and the consequences of that is a significant part of this. #wildfire #ecology #fire
