Jennifer Lempp @jennifer-lempp.bsky.social · 12/10/2026This is another example that the beauty of Math is everywhere. These ancient ruins in Peru have walls that were built with huge stones, carved so that each piece fit perfectly together. How much do these pieces weigh? What shapes do you see here? 010

Jennifer Lempp @jennifer-lempp.bsky.social · 23/09/2026Spent the last 2 days at Randolph ES in Arlington with this amazing coaching & admin team. We reflected, planned, and set goals to move forward alongside teacher teams. It was a magical couple of days. 012
Jennifer Lempp @jennifer-lempp.bsky.social · 22/09/2026Are you using Open Middle problems in your class? The amount of math students do with one simple problem is amazing. And they are so much more engaging There are so many available at openmiddle.com. I used one with my undergraduates last night. Thanks @robertkaplinsky.com for this amazing resource! 181
Jennifer Lempp @jennifer-lempp.bsky.social · 18/09/2026I was honored to give the Keynote for last night's GRCTM conference in Richmond. The focus was on building a Mathematics community. Here's the thing: Building community in the Mathematics classrooms doesn't stop after the first couple of weeks of school. It's daily. It's ongoing. #MathWorkshop 000
Jennifer Lempp @jennifer-lempp.bsky.social · 17/09/2026Spent the last two evenings facilitating virtual PL with the Rural Math Collaborative Intervention Pilot in CA. Jennifer Lempp @jennifer-lempp.bsky.social · 11/09/2026Cohort 2 at Fort Belvoir ES in Fairfax County, VA ended today. The Math Workshop professional learning was such a pleasure to facilitate. This group of educators reflected on their current state and made strong, reasonable goals for next steps. I can't wait to continue partnering with them. 010
Jennifer Lempp @jennifer-lempp.bsky.social · 10/09/2026Cohort 1 at Fort Belvoir ES in FCPS ended today. We wrapped up with small-group instruction, learning stations, and reflection. So many more pictures to share of this incredible group in action. For now, I'll share our group pic of this phenomenal group of smiling teachers! 000
Jennifer Lempp @jennifer-lempp.bsky.social · 09/09/2026My work with Arlington Public Schools always brings me joy. The leadership is thoughtful, and the educators are dedicated. Today I had the pleasure of working with elementary coaches, and it was wonderful to hear them discussing the great things happening in their schools. 021
Jennifer Lempp @jennifer-lempp.bsky.social · 04/09/2026Another spectacular day at Fort Belvoir ES, and I'm already excited for my time there again next week. These teachers just started their school year and were still willing to spend the day lesrning more about math I struction. My goal: To be worth the sub plans! 020
Jennifer Lempp @jennifer-lempp.bsky.social · 03/09/2026I can tell how much math talk I'll hear in a classroom just by looking at the desks! Kids who sit together are more likely to talk together. If you want more discourse, try moving a few desks into clusters this week. It's a small shift that makes a big difference! 010
Jennifer Lempp @jennifer-lempp.bsky.social · 03/09/2026Today was just the first of several magical days at Fort Belvoir ES in Fairfax County Public Schools, VA. Today we discussed the bones and heart of math workshop. The questions, comments, and overall participation were 🔥🔥🔥. Can't wait to continue with more of the teachers tomorrow. 010
Jennifer Lempp @jennifer-lempp.bsky.social · 01/09/2026Halfway up this hike, huffing and puffing, I really wanted to turn around. I'm so glad I didn't! Standing at the top, proud of myself, I kept thinking: this is the feeling I want kids to have in math. Not because it was easy, but because they stuck with something challenging! 020
Jennifer Lempp @jennifer-lempp.bsky.social · 01/09/2026Today in Math Methods, the topic was early number development: the learning trajectory for counting, counting strategies, & common misunderstandings. We explored ways to give young students opportunities to count, & the noise in the classroom let me know that these adult students loved it too! 030
Jennifer Lempp @jennifer-lempp.bsky.social · 28/08/2026Carlin Springs Elementary was amazing yesterday. A new curriculum resource always means some questions. Our new resource helps us to teach within our math workshop model. The research, the beliefs, and the tenets ground us in creating the best learning experiences for students. 020
Jennifer Lempp @jennifer-lempp.bsky.social · 27/08/2026Started my day today at Claremont Immersion school in Arlington , and boy was it 🔥🔥🔥. These teachers hold high expectations for students and for themselves. We discussed how math workshop aligns to productive beliefs and the research. Their students are fortunate to have them. 010
Jennifer Lempp @jennifer-lempp.bsky.social · 26/08/2026Kristin Bernacki and Lindsay Blanchard were the winners of the Back to School book giveaway. Check your mailboxes. The books are on their way! Congratulations and have a great year. 000
Jennifer Lempp @jennifer-lempp.bsky.social · 26/08/2026We packed a lot in to a day at Falling Creek Elementary in Chesterfield County, VA. We focused on creating structures that work without draining the life out of the teachers. 3rd-5th teachers dug into multiplication/division. K-2nd worked on addition/subtraction. Loved this amazing group! 050
Jennifer Lempp @jennifer-lempp.bsky.social · 21/08/2026Arlington Public Schools has a special place in my heart. ❤️ So, working with their new elementary teachers today brought me so much joy! Their insightful conversations and thoughtful questions made our work together powerful! Thank you for the invitation! 000
Jennifer Lempp @jennifer-lempp.bsky.social · 21/08/2026My morning with teachers at Our Lady of Good Council in Vienna, VA was spent on doable and sustainable strategies to create a student-centered #MathWorkshop classroom. Reasoning routines, focus lessons, small-group, learning stations, & reflection. Students are going to love their math classes! 010
Jennifer Lempp @jennifer-lempp.bsky.social · 12/08/2026Raise your hand if math class was rows of desks, silent worksheets, and praying you didn't get called on. 🙋 Now imagine handing your students the total opposite - talk, tools, joy. That's Math Workshop, and the book shows you how: linktr.ee/jennifer.lempp 010
Jennifer Lempp @jennifer-lempp.bsky.social · 11/08/2026JUMP SCARE! The new school year is right around the corner, while some of you are already back. As you learn your new class, be as gentle with yourself as you would be with them. You would never expect a student to have it figured out by week one. You do not have to either! You got this 010
Jennifer Lempp @jennifer-lempp.bsky.social · 07/08/2026 I was back in one of my happy places today at Handley High School in Winchester Public Schools. We looked at research and beliefs of a student-centered math class and discussed small tweaks we can make to our class to help increase engagement and achievement. These teachers are amazing! 020
Jennifer Lempp @jennifer-lempp.bsky.social · 06/08/2026Three buckets. That's what stands between you and math workshop success! 🪣 Classroom arrangement, routines and procedures, and mathematics community. And the best part is you don't need a perfect classroom to fill them, just a purposeful one. Fill all three and watch your math class transform! 000

Jennifer Lempp @jennifer-lempp.bsky.social · 05/08/2026Loved presenting at NCTM/NCTE Joint #LitMath2026. The participants were so amazing and thoughtful. Bringing joy to students through math games is doable! Keeping it simple and going for quality over quantity is SO important! 000
Jennifer Lempp @jennifer-lempp.bsky.social · 30/07/2026Had a great time presenting about student-centered mathematics at the VA Dept of Education's High Quality Instructional Practices for Private Schools conference this week. A special thanks to Virginia Tech for supporting this event. I was honored to be a part of this! #MathWorkshop #teacherPL 010
Jennifer Lempp @jennifer-lempp.bsky.social · 22/07/2026As the summer wraps up, I wanted to welcome you back with a gift. Enter the raffle to win a FREE book from me. forms.gle/8A8xWRSadQkS.... Have a great school year! Remember: Your students are SO fortunate to have you! 000
Jennifer Lempp @jennifer-lempp.bsky.social · 26/06/2026Sometimes all a student needs is a sentence frame and the right manipulatives. This beaded rack supports thinking. The frame gives them the words to explain it. Putting sentence frames and manipulatives into stations means kids who used to stay quiet start explaining their math out loud! 100
Jennifer Lempp @jennifer-lempp.bsky.social · 24/06/2026Hiding the manipulatives in a cabinet? Bad move, friend. Keeping them out and accessible builds student discourse, deeper thinking, and real understanding of the math! It can be as simple as bins everyone can see and reach :) 000
Jennifer Lempp @jennifer-lempp.bsky.social · 18/06/2026I saw this on a school visit & it stuck with me. Teaching isn't just math or science or history, it's helping students shift their mindset. It applies to us teachers too! The way we talk to ourselves about our teaching shapes how we grow and help our students to do the same! 000
Jennifer Lempp @jennifer-lempp.bsky.social · 18/06/2026Are you headed to VCTM at the end of the month? If so, I'd love to see you there! I'm presenting twice about strategies to amplify student voice and increase engagement. SPOILER ALERT: They are quick, practical, and manageable strategies you can start implementing on day 1 of the school year. 000
Jennifer Lempp @jennifer-lempp.bsky.social · 17/06/2026This works b/c a quiet classroom can feel calm, but it might be holding your kids back. Hattie's research across 300 million students ties academic discourse, cooperative learning, small-group instruction, manipulatives, and spaced practice to a year or more of growth. Give your students that space! 000
Jennifer Lempp @jennifer-lempp.bsky.social · 17/06/2026So why do these approaches work better than traditional math learning? 100
Jennifer Lempp @jennifer-lempp.bsky.social · 17/06/20264. Cooperative learning: Students working together. This work may be initiated in whole-group or small-group instruction or learning stations. Best for occurring often in the classroom to create student ownership of the learning and increase discourse. 100
Jennifer Lempp @jennifer-lempp.bsky.social · 17/06/20263. Learning stations: Activities that students do independently or cooperatively. Students complete these to practice, apply, or explore math, often without direct teacher guidance. Best for engaging students in academic discourse and giving kids time to practice or review math topics. 110
Jennifer Lempp @jennifer-lempp.bsky.social · 17/06/20262. Small-group instruction: The teacher works with a small, flexible group of students at a time to provide targeted instruction based on their specific needs. Best for targeting exactly what specific kids need, based on where they are. Can be skill-based, heterogenous, or random groups of students. 100
Jennifer Lempp @jennifer-lempp.bsky.social · 17/06/20261. Whole-group instruction: The teacher delivers instruction to the entire class at once - every student is receiving the same lesson at the same time and pace. Best for introducing a new concept to everyone at once before breaking off into small group, learning stations, or cooperative learning 100
Jennifer Lempp @jennifer-lempp.bsky.social · 17/06/2026Whole group, small group, learning stations, and cooperative learning... So many options, but what do they all mean? Let me break it down for you in this thread! 110
Jennifer Lempp @jennifer-lempp.bsky.social · 16/06/2026I asked teachers what math was like for them as students – the sticky notes said it all. So much of how we feel about math comes from how we were taught! What did you think about math as a student? How can you help your student shift from similar mindset? 000
Jennifer Lempp @jennifer-lempp.bsky.social · 12/06/2026In this video I breakdown each module for my @grassrootsworkshops.com “How To Implement Math Workshop (6-12)”. It's an affordable, effective, & flexible workshop that you can take at your own pace! You can get it here - shorturl.at/XpLKz 011
Jennifer Lempp @jennifer-lempp.bsky.social · 11/06/2026Side by side content coaching is one of my favorite things I get to do! Sitting with a teacher, thinking through their students together, and making those instructional decisions as a team. It's the good stuff 🙂 000
