I keep thinking how the people of TX are still paying up to 10% surcharges on their electricity bills—many for years yet—for the 6 day freeze energy emergency in 2021, due to government’s deference to profits. I know b/c I wrote the plan for the PUC in 2011 that would’ve avoided the mess—if used.

Has anyone thought to ask about ERCOT electric supply b/c it needs water? You wanna talk about oil and gas problems? When ERCOT goes down, the country goes down. I wrote a plan for the PUC for the 2011 drought/freeze, but they didn’t see a need…then the 2021 freeze…still nothing.

I worked for the PUC during the freeze in 2011 when we learned about these problems. The sad thing is we had grant funds and studied them, found solutions, but the state didn’t carry them out. I designed a plan to relieve stress on the grid in emergencies, never used—would kill those juicy profits.

My mom and I moved here from Texas a few years ago. I’d lived in Austin many years, but I grew up in Houston which is about the same size as the state of Rhode Island. I have to laugh when people complain about the drive from Cumberland to Cranston and so forth—that’s a dream commute for a Texan!

Did the PUC ever come up with a curtailment plan, just in case? I’d devised one in 2011, repeatedly asked them to adopt it or one like it, left it behind in 2013, reminded them in 2021 as it sat on their servers—even as Deann Walker reported they were trying to devise curtailments—and still, nada.

When I worked for the TX PUC 12+ years ago, we had put together and excellent outage system. It was dismantled soon thereafter. Seems like somebody should find out why b/c we spent a lot of money on that.

I realize this is risky for Gabe, but if more Staff would be candid about the way their (former) bosses operate, we’d have more transparency into our government. Officials shouldn’t be doing shady things Staff should feel they should hide.

As someone who has written regulations, the ones that end up being silly are b/c industry threw so much weight around during the process that only some tiny fraction of the original goal can be met—maybe just a reporting requirement that Staff doesn’t even have time to review = the point.

I noticed something in this article that’s been nagging at me—the local Postmaster mentions a $40 billion reinvestment in USPS. Didn’t the very same Postmaster General DeJoy—whom Biden couldn’t/didn’t fire—dismantle USPS infrastructure under Trump? Now are they replacing what they just trashed?

lol—we were very nervous, like WTF, as these cops invaded. We tried to back slowly out the door as they swarmed a wall with dildos on it which was even more confusing. My colleague dropped her policeman brother’s name with the officer in charge and he suggested we leave.

I worked for a congressman in the 90s and was in a record store on Montrose with a co-worker when it was raided. We didn’t know why but could see the headlines “Congressional Staffers Swept Up in Vice Sting” as they poured in. Turns out it was the dildo thing. It was like a dozen cops!

Yet more evidence of the NY Times’ obsolescence… “Y’all” is the most useful unofficial word in our lexicon. It takes a deft hand, however, to master the possessive “y’all’s”. It’s not for beginners.

"The progressive movement needs to change. We need to re-emphasize core economic issues every time some of these cultural war issues are brought up," Casar said. "So when we hear Republicans attacking queer Americans again, I think the progressive response needs to be that a trans person didn't deny your health insurance claim, a big corporation did - with Republican help. We need to connect the dots for people that the Republican Party obsession with these culture war issues is driven by Republicans' desire to distract voters and have them look away while Republicans pick their pocket."
