I can't believe it's already here - next week is #dbtSummit, y'all! I can't wait to see everyone in person again, geek out about everything dbt, and hang out with the coolest data nerds around. In case you haven't heard, peer exchanges are a can't-miss for in-person Summit attendees...

I didn’t even know that A Shop For Killers was getting a season 2, though of course I’ve been waiting and hoping for one for 2 years since it ended on a cliffhanger. Hopefully this season we get more of one of my favorite actors, Lee Dong-Wook. Oh and here’s day 1 of my weaving project

Today was a great day. I saw Renee Christine play live, I had a delicious arepa from a local restaurant that won a Michelin bib gourmand for dinner, I started my first weaving project (a 30 day kit from a local artist)… AND I just found out that A Shop For Killers season 2 premiers today!!

My Hario Switch arrived this week, which means that I am now in my coffee pour over era. Previously the only method I had to make coffee was my trusty moka pot, but now I have the combined powers of immersion and percolation (and a hybrid of the two!) Technically I could also use it to make tea!
My tea/coffee setup: my new hario switch glass set on my scale, next to my celadon gongfu tea set, a clay tea pot, matcha whisk, and gooseneck kettle. And the rest of my kitchen behind it.

I also really enjoyed Leigh Warner's session "Draw Before You Code" - she talked about how to solve the same kind of problem I've approached from the librarian's frame of the reference interview but from a visual designer's frame of the requirements tree. 5/8
Leigh presenting her talk. This slide is titled "In the AI world, why is design still important?" The bullets below read:
- slows you down and keeps you close to the problem
- prevents you from leaning and building on assumptions
- constraints, relationships, edge cases sometimes present themselves when you work visually
- the output is no the point... but it does aide in collaboration
- a well understood problem = a fast solution

Ratio PBC's own Eric Guroff gave a fantastic presentation about state & local health data reporting. Many of the attendees approach government health data from either end of the pipeline - as data producers at the start of the pipeline or data consumer at the end of the pipeline... 3/8

From the boat ride the night before (complete with trivia over dinner) to the "cursed chart" competition that closed out a day full of informative sessions, Data Camp really did feel more like a camp for healthcare data nerds than a conference. 2/8

Perhaps not quite what you are looking for but I adore my hammock swing, I bought two since my house came with two hooks where a porch swing used to hang. It is my favorite spot for knitting, reading, and sometimes coffee too

#dbt has always had community champions, but thanks to Bolaji Oyejide it's now an official program! I remember discussing the seeds of this idea with @jthandy.bsky.social at Coalesce 2024, and it's so exciting to see it now become a reality.

I went to Carolina FiberFest this weekend and took 2 weaving workshops. Behold my first ever attempts at weaving:
Output from my “art weaving” workshop, which is honestly just about vibes. Ignore the phone shadowArt weaving workshop was with a saori loomOutput of my “small tapestry” weaving workshop. I was very determined to weave the blue ridge mountains at sunset. Not too bad I thinkIn this case the loom was cardboard and we had a tapestry needle and fork to help with the weaving.

These hammock swings have got to be one of my favorite knitting purchases.
I’m in a hammock swing, on my covered front porch, with my knitting on my lap and pattern held up by the porch swing rope, with two dogs relaxing in the background. It’s 65 degrees and the birds are singing all around. In February.

In our family the tale of the spaghetti sauce sauce recipe is told every Christmas Eve, along with a re-count of how many years the spaghetti sauce has been made for Christmas Eve dinner (I forget exactly but ~70 years). We all got the recipe on tea towels for Christmas one year. It shall live on!

Celebrated Imbolc yesterday by making some candied oranges. Should be ready tonight to dip in chocolate (for those that held together) or coat with sugar (for the rest). My first attempt at candying fruit… I hope they are worth it!

If you were able to attend my talk - thank you! I hope you enjoyed it and learned enough to start thinking like a librarian... or at least I hope I convinced you that you need a librarian's perspective on your data team (so hire one!).
