Frying Tonight! Man with Arms Raised
Alt: From Carry On Screaming. GIF shows Kenneth Williams, dressed in a lab coat and caked in white makeup, shrieking ‘Frying tonight!’ just before he drowns in a giant tub of nefarious potion.

The one about flying a kite near pylons also effectively put an end to my kite-flying career because even if there were no pylons in sight, what if one appeared *somehow*? So, I guess those ads were very effective.

The public safety film about the dangers of messing about on railways. There was a railway just beyond our school playground, so the police regularly visited for a talk. I was 4 when I stood up and screamed in assembly, ‘No Robbie, DON’T!’ as our protagonist started to cross the railway line.

Such a great writer! Also enjoyed and still think about Helm. The way she describes the North West landscape is just something else.

Morning Womble! Reading When There Are Wolves Again by EJ Swift, which is as beautiful as everyone here has said it is ❤️. Listening to Mortedant’s Peril by RJ Barker, narrated by Joe Eyre - grimy city, interesting magic, mysteries to solve, found family… cracking fun so far.

It’s a very lovely thing that, in my birthday month, there are so many fabulous new books I can justify buying. The TBR pile screams for attention and yet… I need to fortify my supplies for winter. Yep, that’s it.

Is there anything to be said for a small sacrifice? Are there any offerings caught in the pit that might suffice?

Internal communications theory v practice, aka ‘Wot I Have Learned in All My Years Of Doing This Job’. The Dragonriders of Pern series. (If only because I inhaled the books as a young ‘un.) The BBC Radio 4 Radiophonic Workshop adaption of LOTR. (Played on every family car journey…)

As a lady of short and curvy nature, trousers are an absolute muthaflupper. If I do happen to find a pair that fits, I try to get two pairs (pay day permitting) because they won’t be there the next time.

Morning Womble! I’m getting stuck into How To End A Story by Helen Garner and it is simply incredible. Her collected diaries from 1978 to 1998. Each entry a perfect wee story in some way. Navigating creativity, art, family life, friendships, keen observation of the world around her and of herself.

This is what we listened to on long family car journeys every year, for years. A beautiful production, with so many standout moments. That version of ‘drums from the deep’ is something else. You are in the room with them as the horror of the trap dawns. And the theme tune… Phenomenal.
