I regret to inform fellow 🇨🇦 that from outside of Canada, Waze has capitulated to the tyranny of the US leader and changed the hydronym on their app. As of the time of this post Google Maps continues to name the lake correctly on theirs.

Episode 3: I’m liking how they’re taking moments from the plot and fleshing them out—exploring the wider picture—the perspectives of everyone involved. They’re also taking the time to explicitly explain the thinking behind the action.

Okay, so on this Little House kick and I know I don’t know enough about USian colonizing so I have questions about the Osage family neighbouring the Ingalls. From what I’ve learned abt Canadian western expansion, I’m now curious about Kansas territory history Reputable sources? please share links!

I mean…I’m only 1 episode in but there does seem to be an overt message about self-reliance being not nearly as important as neighbourliness and building community. I like it.

Anticipating the new adaptation of Little House on the Prairie. I reread those novels until the covers fell off. I’ve gained a more nuanced perspective on them as an adult (obvi) & am hopeful this new adaption will do a bit of an “Anne With an E” by engaging with wider representation & communities.

I have, at best, 1 more full day of sitting on floors & doing squats & kneeling as I do inventory. My body is making it very obvious that I am older than I was when I started this job. 😣

Right now, RIGHT now, you have to start differentiating between generative AI (garbage), and analytic/assistive AI (useful). Generative AI is, at best, a scam. And right now, it's actively preventing us from developing USEFUL technologies. @mark-carney.bsky.social

_Most_ adults are not children’s authors or children’s librarians or children’s publishers. (I think his critical points about publishing are fair & valid.) To ask those other types of adults (including parents) to think about the types of books they choose to buy, gift or read with kids is fair.

Look: I enjoyed this book. I think it’s a humorous series of observations about something *most* adults don’t give two considered thoughts about. I, _personally_, am not offended by anything he has to say about writing for children.

Tis the season for end-of-year library inventory. GameTime! : How many unrecovered Easter eggs will I will find as I go through the shelves? Will share results before June 26th. (To be clear: these are not edible eggs. They are flat laminated cutouts of colourful eggs.) #librarylife

I am now in possession of this book from my public library. The Discourse™️ -as I understand it- was primarily about a hyperbolic statistic that I have not yet reached/ located in the text. Am enjoying the footnotes and asides so far.

There are Arthurian adaptations that I can get behind and some that I cannot for the precise reasons you mention. And I know I’ve seen my last production of Hamlet because it made me like Hamlet. I don’t want to not like Hamlet again.

😆 Fair enough! Solid reasoning on the Tolkien and I haven’t seen Rings of Power so cannot pass judgement there. I do maintain that _in general_ watching/reading/playing/experiencing as many different adaptations of *any* story no matter how old or new is a worthy endeavour 🙂

When the boys eventually deviated from Biblical/traditonal family names everyone became a 2-syllable ends in “n” name: Brayden, Hayden, Harrison, Caden, Evan, Ethan etc. The big difference here is the francophone influence: we had more “elle” and “ine” endings for girls as well as the ah/a/ee

😆 #accurate For years I tracked baby announcements in newspapers across Canada and analyzed trends for fun. This was before they started announcing provincial baby names up here each year and I was curious if it was different from the US—at the time it seemed to be.
