Waypoint on my path to study painting. Study on how to continue from having figured out and plotted out the basic form and values. The key was in thinking about local contrast and level of detail/edges in places I want to have attention paid to. I got to learn and you got an elegant kobold.

Fran more with the gear she actually goes with. This is a coloring technique study. Pose and light interpreted from works of Reagan Long. I think they are BeaganBong on bsky? I admire how they paint so I want to understand that. This is the worksafe version of the illustration. Finished not perfect

Tailchaser here after a long hiatus since last Tailchaser pic. First digital one. I decided to go with grayscale (and those with sharp eyes see that it actually isn't) just to try out if I had learned anything with colour works. I'd say "yes" to some. There are a lot of things still to figure out.

Putting the "meaningful practise" hours in and trying to get familiar with the tools, techniques and workflow. I should propably draw more mechs or mech related things... But... I don't know why this specific furry cheetah has kept my drive to draw up. 🤔 Should try to get some Tailchaser art out.

Happy accident. Was trying to draw a pose like this with open wizard robes. Lots of different sketch phases combined and then I did lineart. Lineart was very thin and scraggy but it helped with actual coloring. Now that I goth the robes plotted out, I turned off the lineart. Tadaa!

Fran the Birdbrain, again. Took a lot of work, learned a lot what to do and what not to. Don't really like how the face looks, nor the feet. However I find it is better to try out something you are not familiar with and learn from there. Anyway! Enjoy!

Jenian Katarn @jenian.bsky.social · 22/01/2026

As I seem to be in some sort of drawing flow state, I've been working. Yet again, the subject is Fran. This time with a bit different approach. I also learned few nice features in Krita (Groups with Alpha inheritance -> Clone Layer on which filters can be applied). Intuitive for my brain. Dem hips!

Fran again! I think I managed to tune colour calibration on Cintiq towards right direction. Otherwise this is a bit of mix and match of many things that do not really work together but as a practise piece this is just fine. Inspiration by Ashraely's work again. Tons of small mistakes 🧡

020

Jenian Katarn @jenian.bsky.social · 18/01/2026

Fran yet again. This is colouring study. Stumbled upon a work by Ashraely and wanted to try out similar colouring style so went with it. Pose is also from there.

Drew an anthro Cheetah (named Fran). I got an inspiration by seeing one of schewiener's (PGM300?) commission works so went with the flow and ended up with this.

I wanted to have a "stream is still running" animation for Picarto. Here is Jinoara Yarhu, my OC from the time I played FFXIV. Even though I've not had the interest of getting back in the game, Jinoara has stayed with me.

If bsky is going forward with censorship practices based on input from 14k users (that is 4 orders of magnitude less than their actual number of users) thus enforcing censorship on NSFW and freedom of expression... I'm leaving yet again. Solution seems to be to create my own site for my art.🛤️

An evening doodle while I was watching Discount Tukayyid games. Earlier today I listened to a BPL podcast episode where Eldonius Rex was being interviewed. He mentioned that his knowledge in art made it possible to draw mechs with flow and motion. That made me to think: Should I try to use mine?

1154

Jenian Katarn @jenian.bsky.social · 13/08/2025

I've been drawing quite lot lately. Just not many inked works. Pencil has been the tool of late. Most of the works are more like going through the joy of drawing while not really thinking of what to draw. Seems that the subject matter has been Jinoara mostly (OC). Non-canon, yet joy to draw.

051

Jenian Katarn @jenian.bsky.social · 10/08/2025

Been a while since I posted any Tailchaser art. Wanted to create a kind of badge. Was thinking of adding text around the ring or on the background but I'd rather explore that out digitally without spoiling the actual drawing. Did some fixes on the original after taking the photo.

041

Jenian Katarn @jenian.bsky.social · 02/08/2025

I've gotten the impression overall during past year on different platforms that pencil art never really catches attention. Inked work does better and greatest attention can be had with colored work, unless the inked/pencil work is exceptional. Just a thought. Here is a shorstack something.

041

Jenian Katarn @jenian.bsky.social · 01/08/2025

Pencil drawing. Just wanted to try to draw the same character as yesterday but as a chibi character. Instead it turned into a shortstack and from behind. After taking the photo and did some horizontal flipping I noticed that the balance is off. Oh well. At least I drew something. :)

020

Jenian Katarn @jenian.bsky.social · 31/07/2025

Originally this was just a doodle. As I continued constructing the body I remembered a Cyberpunk RED character that I did not have art for. So I went with that. A Medtech with Demonique™️ Exotic Package with not much else gear to go with. Style over substance.

Here is the battlesuit drawing I mentioned yesterday. This is from few months back. Photo has been taken with different phone and the way the app scales down images is a bit odd. I have to figure that out at later time.

NSFW Shortstack catgirl doodling. Just wanted to draw and it has been while since I've posted anything here. I actually do have a battlesuit drawing that I've not posted here... Have to fix that. Anyway: Shortstacks!

Shaped the dowels, reamed the bench part for those dowels. Made mistakes. Fixed mistakes. Glued the whole thing together, made mistakes with gluing, disassembled it and made quick fixes. Then reassembled... Drew this janitor. I got inspired from a round of SS14. She has pants.

052

Jenian Katarn @jenian.bsky.social · 23/04/2025

Been doing woodworking. Making dowels for chair legs without a lathe is a skill that I need to hone. Drew this few days ago. Tried to go with more curvature for the pose as I have a habit to draw more rigid poses. Drawing evolved in the process many times. Mistakes were made and lessons learned.

Wanted to draw something from low angle. Didn't really know what it will be so I just kept doodling. This is the result. It has issues with angle and balance. However, it was fun to draw and I learned something new. :)

Talked with 92 yo grandmother. Kernel of our chat: "Acknowledge what is coming, face it when it comes. Meanwhile, enjoy the day." From what I know of her history, I think she knows what she is talking about. Anyway! Here is a drawing! It is not Frankie even though hairstyle was an inspiration.

A girl in science fiction bodysuit is sitting on a ledge. Her hairstyle is similar to Frankie Foster (cartoon character).

Doing type(setting?) with shaky hands results in illegible difficult to read text. Drawback of doing exercise and wanting to draw soon after. 😀 Tailchaser's epiphany in an observation room! There is a joke and some setting references.

Old friend from years back asked if I was interested playing in a Mystara BECMI-campaign for nostalgia's sake. I said yes! For me it is dive into history rather than nostalgia. Here is Avicenna, Elf from Minrothad. Digital with simplified shading. Color is always a challenge. 😄

Picked a random article on Sarna and drew a picture of an event related to the character in the article. Character in question is not named here. Wanted to draw but didn't have anything specific in mind so I challenged myself. Went with "draw quick" approach so Wasp and Zeus are not as detailed.

Tailchaser in yet another advert. Canopus Industries Alpha produces Autocannons and Pike to name few. During inking, the expression changed. So this didn't quite come out as I originally intended. I drew this page around 6 times so paper began taking damage.

Tailchaser doing a collaboration with MechFans and KittenSocks. She is bit annoyed about this but ammo doesn't pay for itself. Saw similar socks in real life and got inspired. 😀

HUMAN ARTISTS, use one piece to convince people to follow you Ehh... I think my thing is to draw gremlin energy cute-lewd and mech-tech-porn with hidden jokes and references if at all possible. If I manage to make you smile or brighten you day, I'm happy. My favorite from year 2024

I drew this simultaneously with the picture in previous post. I remember thinking of doing something different to break tension from fingers by drawing round forms and something soft. Occurrence here is non-canon. 😄 Inked on same day as previous.

Picture of Tailchaser drawn around new year's eve. Inked yesterday. Tried to figure out hooded leotard/under-suit. It takes time after a long break for hand-eye to find the correct pencil/pen pressure. I feel so heavy handed now. It is passing - as long as I keep drawing that is.

Jenian Katarn @jenian.bsky.social · 06/12/2024

Tailchaser trying to enjoy her evening out. What is the term for evening leave from military base? Is there a term for it? Drawing that figuratively drew itself. I tried to correct the idiom as originally I wrote it wrong. Challenge in expressing ideas through limited medium of language.

2275

Jenian Katarn @jenian.bsky.social · 02/12/2024

Tailchaser in Urbie-dress. Don't really know what the occasion is for her dressing like this. Celebrations of sort? Is it jultide-celebrations they are having with the platoon? I have been spending time on resting and seems that flu season has come. Pace of posting drawings might slow down a bit.

Drawing in ink. A catgirl dressed in short sleeved sports top and bike shorts. Over those she is wearing a dress with Urbanmech-pattern "print". She is wearing a beaning knitted to look like Urbanmech top. She is holding Urbanmech weapons made out of card board in her hands like gloves. She has white over-the-knee socks.

Guest researcher giving a presentation. This was challenging as figuring out how to present an object moving towards camera in a still image. If it is not clear, that is a Marauder from beneath. Quote is from the man itself. (Thanks!) Also: Which book? Which scene?

Tailchaser and another mechwarrior from the base decided to go for a "perimeter patrol" on a particularly hot day. "We'll do analytics on heat sink performance while there as the weather is nice for that." I've been exhausted these past few days. Drew something for sake of drawing.

On Van Zandt you can feel your closeness to nature, see the local wild life and have a pet companion following you on your adventure! The Van Zandt Eagle is trying to steal the dog.(Inspiration for this picture comes from Edvard Isto's "Attack" and Akseli Gallen-Kallela's "Defense of the Sampo").

How would Tailchaser be during late Clan Invasion era? Ideas of granny Tailchaser in her Blackjack sweeping and axe-kicking clan mechs was funny. I was told that the idea brought mental images of "Big Boss" or "Solid Snake". Thus I drew her as "Smol Boss" of merc company "Aggressive Arthritis"

Drawing in ink for a old catgirl in her mechwarrior suit holding a neuro-helmet. Sha has an eye patch (AR/HUD), scars on face and her left cat ear is missing pieces (implying an old injury). She is wearing boots with chin guards. Her legs are muscular. She has a scowling expression. On the background is a Union-class dropship landing.
Under the picture is following text: Smol Boss - "Aggressive Arthritis" 3058, Granny Tailchaser

Peculiar advertisement circulating around Taurian Concordant media. I first drew something and after I figured out what it was, the narration was born. This was one of those "put the pen on paper and let's see what happens". There was a guideline mistake, that ended up in ink and had to fix it.

Drawing in ink. A catgirl Tailchaser doing pre-training stretched in pose that some call "jack-o pose". I'd say it is just cat stretch. She is wearing her pilot suit and chin guard boots. Under the picture is following text: "Want to join Yoga class with Catgirl? You don't have to travel all the way to Canopus! Join Taurian Defence Force TODAY!"
And under that reads in small lettering: "Collaboration with Taurian Velites & OnlyMechs"

Story behind Tailchaser's callsign. I had quite many issues with this yet as a whole it works. Sorry about the odd grammar. Should have proof read it before inking it in.

Drawing in ink. Sad looking mechwarrior catgirl is sitting on mossy rock. Instructor in flip flops and swim trunks is ruffling her hair as sign of compassion. Under the picture is following text: "Got lost during training. Found mech trail. Followed trail and saw more tracks, joins trail. Encouraged, kept following. Hours later was found following own trail by instructor. Tailchaser was born!"

Tailchaser piloting Chameleon - a training mech. Heat management, poorly fitting neuro-helmet pressing on ears, tail tucked between seat cushions and not hearing headset radio properly all add their own difficulty on the learning. Peak alertness.

Drawing in ink. Catgirl mechwarrior is sitting in Chameleon mech's cockpit wearing neuro-helmet and cooling bolero. Her expression is combination of nervousness, alertness and focus.

Tailchaser's first training ride on the field. Champion and trainer are ready for the session. Tailchaser's neurohelmet is bit difficult to wear as it presses on her ears and instructions to wear "something you'd take to beach" was a little confusing.

Jenian Katarn @jenian.bsky.social · 17/11/2024

I wanted to draw Tailchaser contemplating world. This became quite a bit heavier. When I was finishing this, for a moment, I felt like I was staring in a mirror. Drawing technique: White pupils. Express the mirror to soul. Usually airheads and children are drawn that way. But it does have this use.

Drawing in ink. Catgirl is holding an UrbanMech plushie on her lap. Background is dark, hazy and oppressive. Catgirl is looking at the plushie. Catgirl's expression and eyes tell of exhaustion. Exhaustion of holding up the facade that everything is fine. When deep inside things are in chaos. Through those eyes you can get a quick glance into the abyss.

Tailchaser and Blackjack. Tried to draw 3-point perspective with sharp angle. Initial idea didn't work so I tried to salvage the drawing as it was thus this picture was born.

Drawing in ink. Catgirl mecwarrior is standing in front of huge tarp that has Blackjack mech drawn on it. There are spruce on the the background. Under the picture is following text: "Tailchaser posing in front of her Blackjack." followed by in cursive: "No! That's a tarp! -QM".

Little Urbie has fallen because of all the heat! Let's help Little Urbie up and support him on his adventure! Pin-up break between perspective practice. My adversary is a free hand ellipse - the key to transfer scale between cardinal planes. Practice attempts will be around later.

Drawing in ink. A pin-up drawing of a catgirl with little Urbanmech plushie. Plushie has fallen so that it is blocking thus censoring the image. Beneath the picture is text: "Little Urbie and the secret of the Moaning Mech."
