A little haul from today. Currently doing a fabulous ghost story writing course run by @alexdavis1981.bsky.social who recommended Laura Purcell, so I picked up House of Splinters which I'm super excited about. Look, I'm excited about all of these tbh. But gosh The Rouse is BLOODY HUGE. #booksky

Three books on a table - the first is 'The Rouse' by China Mieville, the second is 'John of John' by Douglas Stuart, and the third is 'House of Splinters' by Laura Purcell.

Magpie is back. Every evening, in fact. I've christened him Martin Luther (because he has a Diet of Worms), but Marty for short because he can McFly. #birdsky #magpie

The world feels broadly terrible and more than a little bit doomed but a couple of days ago I whistled to a maggie while out walking, and today the same one (grass stain on his judge's wig) visited my yard and unearthed some heckin' CHONKER worms. It was really nice. #birdsky

I should post more of the odd things I come across in story research, so here's one: London Evening News 1926 clipping - Harry Price keeping Eleonora Zugun ('Poltergeist Girl') 'under close observation' for three days and witnessing a stiletto hurl itself at the wall. Well suss!

AWC really outdid themselves with this #furiousfiction submission receipt. (That thing I did an hour ago wasn't what it looked like, I swear! I just got the thing...stuck...in the thing. Perfectly normal, could happen to anyone.) Good luck to all the entries!

Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee I made the #furiousfiction longlist for the first time, so chuffed! The shortlist stories are well worth a read, all very different and wonderful: www.writerscentre.com.au/blog/furious...

My copy of Ghosted by @alicevernon10.bsky.social arrived!! V bloody excited to delve into this over the weekend. (I've seen people post book hauls on, like, pretty flower wreaths and rustic tables etc but I didn't have any of that so I just put it on a cat.) #ghosts #ghoststories #BookSky

Spending a lot of time trawling through newspaper archives for writing research, but I'm always getting distracted by bizarre little stories and characters, like this drunk Dorset vicar! Entirely irrelevant, but fascinating. Wonder what became of him... #writesky #writingcommunity #writerresearch
