Happened to pass by this rune stone today. It was raised around the year 982 in the Danish Viking Age settlement of Hedeby, which is now located in modern-day Germany. The town was probably established by Frisian traders in the 8th century, before it was taken over by the Danes.

Thoroughly enjoyed Rhea Lemans 'Arendt - Denken in Finstere Zeiten' at the Thalia Theater in Hamburg. The play is based on the life and works of the historian and philosopher Hannah Arendt, particularly her most well known book 'Eichmann in Jerusalem: A Report on the Banality of Evil'.

The Duvenseer Moor is renowned among archeologists for the remains of a mesolithic settlement that were found here, including a 8,400 year old paddle and the site of a cremation burial that took place ca. 10,500 years ago. In winter, on a day like this, it makes for a great area to go ice skating.

On 13 March, the Mecklenburgisches Staatstheater in Schwerin will stage Monteverdi's L'incoronazione di Poppea. The same opera will premiere at the Theater Lübeck, just 55 km away, on 14 March. Perhaps this is a consequence of keeping the programme a secret until the start of the season.

The "Langbett" of Munkwolstrup (just south of Flensburg) is a in 2002 reconstructed long barrow. At 70m(!) long, it is one of the largest objects of its kind in Northern Europe. It is part of Arnkiel-Park, an archeological area which hosts 7 Neolithic grave sites #TombTuesday

I went to a fascinating lecture this evening by judge Dominik Groß, who presided over the trial of former concentration camp secretary Irmgard Furchner. At 97, she was convicted for her role in 10,500 murders in what was probably the last trial of its kind.

The Teufelsküche (Devil's Kitchen) dolmen close to Haldensleben. Legend has it a pagan sacrificial site once stood here. Supposedly, men would follow their priest through the forest to this spot, singing ancient chants. Nearby, many other megalithic tombs can be found. #TombTuesday

'Der Rosenkavalier' by Richard Strass premiered at the Theater Lübeck. Impressed by the singing and the orchestra, but a bit disappointed in the staging. It felt like the whole budget went into the period costumes, with not enough left for the stage design and props.
