I love Hannah Fry and I can't believe how hard they're going to murder her, just because a) she pointed out how stupid they are, and b) Jerry Hall is scared of the dark. www.youtube.com/watch?v=twDv...

Dolly Parton was much more than just her music, but the music was divine. Her voice is beyond anyone, and the songs she wrote were everything. I love her so much. www.youtube.com/watch?v=gt0k...

Beatles. Incredible. Perfect format, not even a challenge. 1957 to 1980. Everyone's getting older at vaguely the right rate, but it doesn't even matter because I'm recasting every season. Nobody's good enough to play one beatle, much less attempt the variations of Paul McCartney over 15 yrs.

the few seconds trailer for the trailer that they put at the start of trailers now suggests that they had the meeting where they realised they were bad at trailers but also decided there was NOTHING TO BE DONE, IMPOSSIBLE TO FIX, CANNOT 'make better trailer'!!!!!

If your neighbour planted TEN cucumber plants this year instead of a more reasonable THREE cucumber plants, and you have to take pity on your neighbour and accept approx SIX cucumbers a day, because you are not a monster, then this is a Very Good Use www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/cucu...

I can't tell you how much I'm not going to watch your film if absolutely none of it takes place in bright sunshine daylight. You're just embarrassing yourself filming action sequences in the shadows.

Snooker players are hoping for a sort of Ryder's Cup snooker tournament, with GB vs China & The World, which seems fine. (They love golf, they're so desperate to have everything the golfers have. They started having a champions' dinner because the golf has one. And special jackets.)

I sensibly retreated from snooker when Mark Allen went 16-14 up, needing 17 to win. Woke up and BARELY even checked the score, because I didn't want to see the awful reality of a Murphy-Allen final. But no! Wuuuuuuuu. Wu. Won three frames, brought hope back to the championship. Wu.

Higgins is 4-4 at the moment, which means he has no interest in winning at least the next three frames. I'm going to make a chocolate meringue cherry pile cake, and listen to the beatles.

Hendry's absolute disdain for Murphy and Higgins playing badly in the first session of their semi final gives me life. JP kept saying 'they're just tired, they'll play better tomorrow' and Hen was like 'well they'd have to!'

I was quite enjoying the little vid the bbc did, setting fire to photographs of all the players who have dropped out... and then they got to Zhao and I was OUTRAGED that they set fire to him, very rude, inappropriate, bring him back.

well this is very unbearable really.

Jen @jekesta.bsky.social · 29/04/2026
Best bit of the crucible this year was the team teasing Hendry about how happy he was the day that Ronnie got knocked out, and def. wouldn't win an 8th this year. He was praising people in commentary the following match, and they were like 'everything looks golden to Hendry tonight!' <33

(I did really enjoy Hawkins/Allen to be fair - although only really because you knew whichever one of them was at the table would win the frame, so you only had to watch the Hawkins frames and could turn the noise down on Allen.)

I can't cope with the snooker, I can't look at it because of the awful people and I know it's very good, I admit it, but that's no good is it, if Murphy and Allen are playing really well that's not anything to enjoy, that's just something to be stoically depressingly gritted about.

Magically there is someone I really like in all four of the quarter finals... upsettlingly there is somebody I really hate in three of those quarter finals, rendering them almost tirely unwatchable.

(in the odd position of being more judgey than Hendry, I think Ding should stop hitting the baulk colours and find some position. And I think Zhao should sit up straight and chill out.)

Jen @jekesta.bsky.social · 24/04/2026
!!! Hendry: "I'm going to cut both players a bit of slack in this first frame, because this is a huge match and I don't think any of us can understand how big this is for these two players."

Jen @jekesta.bsky.social · 24/04/2026
every critical (accurate) thing Hendry says against Ding stings my heart. (I know you can't have blind loyalty from hendry, it would be ridiculous, but he felt him so totally for a while, and it's just a shame is all, that Ding never quite flew.)

(still think Mark Williams should be a Mark J Williams. I know he hates it, and I know he's three times world champion , but we might not know him, how do we know he's not the other nobody ever met him or saw him Mark Williams unless they DIFFERENTIATE him.)

I'm sad for tiny stan moody (flew to a 6-2 lead over awful kyren wilson, then lost 10-7). It's because nothing nice is going to happen this year so he can't blame himself. we spent all the luck last year and now the terrible interim generation are going to suck all life from this one. #snooker

Best bit of the snooker today was when Ali Carter lost to John and in his interview the first thing he said was he couldn't believe how unlucky he was, and never had any run of the ball all day. And John Higgins came to talk to Hazel absolutely spitting because he'd heard this

He won his match 10-7 in the end \o/ I love his terrible ways. He's hoping to play Ronnie next because of the nostalgia of it all. They get a big fuss made when they play big matches against each other in case it might never happen again, but it'll probably happen again in 2032 so whatever.

Is Gilbert's walk on music even good? I think it's rubbish. And even if it was as good as Zhao's, introducing him by mentioning it is embarrassing as anything, and generally I don't mind Rob Walker and his enthusiasm, but oh my god.

I'm kind of okay/ safely assuming nothing will go well this year. things went so well last year. I've written this one off early doors. I've even planned Outings in the second week!

Jen @jekesta.bsky.social · 19/04/2026
he's 5-4 down now, not 4-0 up. He's happier that way. You just have to let him flail around at the crucible, it's his only way. (this is not to say I don't hate him for it)
010
Jen @jekesta.bsky.social · 19/04/2026
the commentators will never get it and I'm resolved to that now, but Higgins only ever gets a 3 or 4 frame advantage in order to throw it away. You just have to accept him for who he is... and be glad he got an advantage before throwing it away, because he didn't always bother.

Jen @jekesta.bsky.social · 19/04/2026
It is Sunday afternoon so they've let the old people have a go at snooker. Higgins v Carter and Stevens v Bingham. Carter's a pity, but generally my generation of old people are so much better than the generation of old people that ruined tournaments in the nineties.

Jen @jekesta.bsky.social · 19/04/2026
Stevens is 7-3 down and probably not long for the crucible, but I love that he came. He still makes all the same shapes and faces and touches the table like nobody else. It's such a proper awful thing that he didn't win his two world championships.
