During a blizzard that caused flight cancellations across the east, a protester arranged signs on an airport fence where an ICE deportation flight would taxi past. One sign shows 5 fists raised in solidarity under the text “NO ICE”. The other sign says “CHAINED PASSENGERS ARE NOT SAFE: O2 (oxygen) or EVACUATION”. This sign refers to the practice by immigration agencies of transporting non-violent, often non-criminal detainees in full wrist and ankle shackles, making it unlikely passengers could reach oxygen masks or evacuate a plane effectively in an emergency, according to flight attendants and experts.
