From my archives; I used Flash 4 to create this Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 installer CD-ROM promo from 1999/2000. It was distributed by mail and publications like PC Magazine. This was right before the dot-com bubble burst. Who remembers getting these browser starter kit CDs in the mail?

Eden Overpass was installed in a Seattle building lobby 15 years ago that will soon undergo renovation. I was offered the painting back which makes it available again to my collectors. Interested parties can DM me or visit my shop. Shop.mihalyo.com

Transferring a full scale drawing to canvas takes several steps. I usually trace the backside of the original drawing with a dark pencil and rub those marks onto the final surface for refinement. It is a good way to position elements before adding paint.

The studio shuffle of large paintings is a regular occurrence in my space. It’s just enough room to work but with each piece the room gets smaller. So I devised an adjustable flat easel that leans against walls and stacked paintings for space efficiency. It’s visible briefly in this video. Onward!

The source material for my paintings derive from my sketchbook practice. This video puts that in context. Witness the sausage-making of eight paintings explained in 42 seconds. See the original pencil work that pre-visualizes the final paintings.

I shot a video of my sketchbooks and this was part of the setup showing my studio with 75 volumes stacked in front of a blank canvas. Normally they are stored in crates and the pages are rarely seen by others once completed. Yet I constantly mine them for painting ideas in my creative practice.
A photograph of 75 sketchbook in my studio in front of a six foot white canvas. Each book is dated and spans decades of creative effort. In the background are paintings in my studio. Many are originally drafted within the sketchbook pages.

Wrapping up a painting commission for shipping with this custom made interior “cushion” box. The outer box is also double thick. The painting should be safe in transit. Fingers crossed.

I’ve been working on this project for three years. The book “Studio Tour” by Steve Walker is an ARTobiography, takes the reader through the artist's adventurous life and art. Get the book and read the stories! Mostly true! Available online now at: www.stephenjwalkerart.com/product-page...

Funny story; In high school I made this drawing and later posted it on AOL. Soon after, "Jermey" sent me a message of his new tattoo. Although he never asked me for permission, the result was a terrible reproduction. However, I told him that I was honored. I wonder if Jeremy still has it.
A picture with two panels show a 1982 pencile drawing from a sketchbook on the right that someone named "Jermey" ripped from AOL in the 90's for his poorly reproduced tattoo shown on the left. The illustration contains ruins of Greek building floating in clouds with hooded figures in the foreground. One is blowing a horn. The original drawing is finely rendered while tattoo is blurry, messy and shows irritated red skin.

In 2015 I finished this oil painting titled Fallen Buddha just before the Earthquake in Nepal. Subsequently it was used on the cover of The Stranger magazine in Seattle that month. Recently temples and other structures collapsed in Myanmar due to a 7.7 earthquake. Honoring that event with this post.

In 2013 I created this 6 foot oil painting that seems relevant today. The concept behind Pyramid is about overturning power structures by celebrating warriors. The question is; now what? Two notions we face today. #art #bsky.art #oilpainting #politicalcartoons #painting #fineart #originalart
A photo of a 6 foot oil painting containing an upside down pyramid on a hill surrounded by spear carrying warriors celebrating their achievement. Blood flows from spears that puncture the bricks of the pyramid. The background is a blue sky with sunset colored clouds. The foreground contains broken bricks, human bones, and pools of blood.

Rain Snake is a 40x79 inch oil painting I made in 1994. It was the last of a series/style that I worked in since the mid 80s. This week marks the beginning of Chines New Year of the Snake. Although this image contains water, technically 2025 is the year of the wood snake. Gong Xi Fa Cai!

It's oil paint inventory day as I prepare to launch into a new series of paintings. (And finish a few on the easel). This looks like a mess but there is method. Some of these paints are over twenty years old yet are still good. I only needed pick-up two colors this time. #art
