Jeff Mc @jeffmca.bsky.social · 31/08/2026Woot! Dare you/we think it could be a good day for *2* offers? Or is that pushing fate just a bit too much? 010
Jeff Mc @jeffmca.bsky.social · 30/08/2026I hear you, and think you're pretty much spot on, even though I'm speaking from a spot of less experience in that space. But, boy do monocultures make me extremely nervous. 020
Jeff Mc @jeffmca.bsky.social · 20/08/2026I'm looking for the JSON people. Oh, and the YAML people will be the first against the wall. 010

Jeff Mc @jeffmca.bsky.social · 30/07/2026Well, minor in that it's a single character I think? And the timeline was fairly well clarified later in the article, but glad to be of service. 000
Jeff Mc @jeffmca.bsky.social · 30/07/2026Minor nit/typo: Beginning of 3rd paragraph, "In the summer of 2025..." 000
Jeff Mc @jeffmca.bsky.social · 01/07/2026I flew into SLC once, but didn't really spend much time there, immediately ubering out to Park City (which is also very delightful). May have to make a point of experiencing SLC. I've heard good things about it from others. 100
Jeff Mc @jeffmca.bsky.social · 25/06/2026What's the meme? "I'm in this picture and I don't like it." 000
Jeff Mc @jeffmca.bsky.social · 03/06/2026Working with dates and times is THE WORST. I was dealing with some of my own challenges in that area today. (Python's datetime.datetime doesn't serialize to JSON without...extra stuff) 000

Jeff Mc @jeffmca.bsky.social · 24/05/2026I, to this day, still remember watching it the first time around as a teenager, and remember how intense it was. "Shook" is probably an apt description of how I remember feeling, yeah. So, some empathizing with your kids. 110

Jeff Mc @jeffmca.bsky.social · 18/05/2026My father taught high school, not college, as Prof. Dunman esquire here does, but I can affirm that the letters and such that he received from students were *cherished*. 020
Jeff Mc @jeffmca.bsky.social · 18/05/2026I've had friends who insisted that I wait outside to initially greet their dog to avoid the urination-from-excitement in the house. 010
Jeff Mc @jeffmca.bsky.social · 15/05/2026I... I fear that there are network engineers that would take that at face value. 120
Jeff Mc @jeffmca.bsky.social · 07/05/2026For water it depends on the design of the data center. None threaten *pollution* of water sources. And "closed-loop" cooling systems in data center pose no threat to water system capacity. Evaporative cooling? Yeah, potential big problem for water systems. 000
Jeff Mc @jeffmca.bsky.social · 22/04/2026I had early success with: "Hey, Bellarmine's plate is black too." Then UofL switched theirs so even better. There are choices here, so I give no cover for wanting black + black being the reason for that type of plate. 110
Jeff Mc @jeffmca.bsky.social · 20/04/2026Depends on the nature of the documents you work with. Long skinny documents are where the win is for portrait mode. Long text docs, spreadsheets with lots of rows and fewer columns. 000
Jeff Mc @jeffmca.bsky.social · 17/04/2026Nice space! I know I mentioned this before, but have you trialed a portrait mode monitor? I didn't think I'd like it until I tried it and now I'll never go back. 210
Jeff Mc @jeffmca.bsky.social · 17/04/2026Tangentially, have you looked at OpenStreetMap for locations for these devices? It's probably not comprehensive, but I know there have been a lot of them added in there across the city. 100

Jeff Mc @jeffmca.bsky.social · 31/03/2026Nope, you've had a couple of great weeks of geeky fun, based on all the reports (from you and others) that I've seen. I won't be the one to destroy that sense of joy. I keep telling myself to book myself on that cruise and keep missing it. 000
Jeff Mc @jeffmca.bsky.social · 28/03/2026As part of the laptop + 2 external monitors camp...yes, so much. Laptop + landscape monitor above it, then portrait monitor to the right of both of them. A portrait mode monitor is a game changer. 130

Jeff Mc @jeffmca.bsky.social · 22/12/2025setattr() might be the better way to do this, though. setattr(self, 'foo', 'Hi There's) 000
Jeff Mc @jeffmca.bsky.social · 22/12/2025Cool little trick. In a class __init__ method `vars(self)[attrname] = attrobj` This will set an attribute on the object named whatever is in the attrname variable. So: attrname = 'foo' attrobj = "Hi There' vars(self)[attrname] = attrobj results in: self.foo == 'Hi There' #python 100
