Alien Earth is exploring that similar narrative territory on AMC. Both came after Pantheon in terms of when production started. (upload premiered first, but Pantheon started earlier in 2018. 000

Reposted by Prof JEFFJAG.ethNick Sousanis @nsousanis.bsky.social · 12/08/2025my statement on Ai from the mini-comic I'm making as syllabus for a new class I'm teaching this fall. It's simple, but I pretty much said all I have to say on it - it robs you of decisions and struggle - and the joy of being surprised. It robs you of learning... 29748307
Prof JEFFJAG.eth @jeffjag.bsky.social · 15/08/2025I believe AI is a tool. The electric drill certainly robs you of the calorie burn of turning the screw manually. But it also builds a damn fine house. 100
Prof JEFFJAG.eth @jeffjag.bsky.social · 15/08/2025So when someone types a prompt for an image, or points a camera and clicks the shutter, or decides to dance beautifully with accompanying music. Or simply decides to be an artist... They are by definition making choices. They are making decisions. They are looking into the void and screaming. 110
Prof JEFFJAG.eth @jeffjag.bsky.social · 15/08/2025As if... people with a passion for something wouldn't strive to learn more and dig deeper and have an undying drive to just make work and express themselves through that work. as if, right? 120
Prof JEFFJAG.eth @jeffjag.bsky.social · 15/08/2025So, this is all leading to this point I want to make. That being an artist is a path everyone takes for themselves. Learning the basics will always make someone who wants to explore how to express themselves through visuals to feel more fulfilled. 110
Prof JEFFJAG.eth @jeffjag.bsky.social · 15/08/2025It's highly technical. It's nowhere near sitting at a desk and drawing. But it's creative. It's artistic. It's the kind of work millions of people get paid for around the globe annually. It's a legit job to be a 3D artist and animator these days. But it's not the same kind of work as painting. 100
Prof JEFFJAG.eth @jeffjag.bsky.social · 15/08/2025I used 3DSMAX and Cinema4D primarily with After Effects, which resulted in work doing animation for broadcast and streaming tv. It's not a flex, it's a path. I learned how to create something as an underlying vector structure then adding textures, bones, animation, keyframes with motion curves... 100
Prof JEFFJAG.eth @jeffjag.bsky.social · 15/08/2025Then I went to college for 3D Art and Animation. I learned how to model and animate in 3d, how to animate motion graphics in 2D+. I learned how to visually tell stories and used a lot of compute power to render those 3D animations. 100
Prof JEFFJAG.eth @jeffjag.bsky.social · 15/08/2025I just don't have to pick one or the other. I'm both. Anyone else who sees these tools would likely benefit from using them. With or without a teacher. I was instructed, but I also spent so many more hours working away on my own, before the internet, in a bedroom with a desk lamp and a sketch pad. 110

Prof JEFFJAG.eth @jeffjag.bsky.social · 15/08/2025AI image generation is more about curation and taste than it is about skill. While that may shock and offend a lot of people, I am one of those who already has a very well developed sense of curation and a highly specific taste for my own art. I also happen to have the skill to back it up. 110
Prof JEFFJAG.eth @jeffjag.bsky.social · 15/08/2025The A/B of that constant decision making is what evolves into my style. I can't speak for artists who haven't gone through a couple decades of learned experience. I CAN speak for someone who DID go through that and still loves AI. 100
Prof JEFFJAG.eth @jeffjag.bsky.social · 15/08/2025So when I leaned into the prompt technique and that very quick feedback, which has only gotten faster in recent years...
