The football is perfect tonight. Zero emotional attachment, virtually no stakes, just entertainment.

I was asked about Chicago so here it is: Second fewest murders through September since 1965 with only fewer murders in 2014 (322 vs 313)

041

Murder is still down a lot in the 30 city sample I've been tracking. Still missing Houston data (RMS upgrade, not available since July) and San Antonio.

Houston, we have a touchdown

I'd love to read about what the last 20 years have been like for the two shocked Falcons fans in the first row during the Domecoming

For comparison, Sean Payton got a year suspension and was fined $7.5 million for using the phrase "ducks in a row" in an email.

Not all cities report data every year to the FBI.

New York's Gun Involved Violence Elimination initiative finally published August data. It shows a slight increase relative to August 2025, only the third month since mid-2022 with a month on month increase.

Trump is -52% on inflation. Has there ever been an issue like this polled?

Weird! Wonder what happened in 2018...

0142

New York City has recorded the fewest murders through September since before 1960, Baltimore since 1962, Philadelphia and Detroit since 1964, Oakland since 1967, and New Orleans since 1969.

There were 4 murders in New Orleans in September and there have been 57 so far in 2026. There have been 91 murders in New Orleans over the last 12 months. That's the fewest murders through September since 1969 and the first 12 month stretch with fewer than 100 murders since 1970.

Gun Violence Archive data shows shootings fell in September, the 40th straight month of declining gun violence in the US. The drop in 2026 will be very large though the pace of the decline may be slowing.
