I don't know what you think you are trying to do here, but if the people of Texas have a choice between a wuss and a fascist, go Team Wuss!

There are good books on Getz/Gilberto and an Akiyoshi/Tabackin big band record in the Brazil & Japan subseries (& the "Global" ones I've read seem to be a little more serious than the unmarked 33.3s).

I remain attached to the idea of 33.3 as a platform for interesting writing rather than a canon of albums, but I am often disappointed...

I could see takes about European identity, opera as pop, classical as kitsch, and PBS.

I am aware of a couple of jazz proposals currently under consideration. We'll see if anything makes it!

Is the only classical one the Xenakis book in the Euro series? Does Switched on Bach count? I feel like there needs to be a Three Tenors one in the main series, but I don't want to write or read it.

To be fair, there are books on Getz/Gilberto and a Akiyoshi/Tabackin record in the Brazil & Japan series. Both are really good. Until your book came out, I thought they had an overt rule against jazz.

Sounds dubious. I enjoy those Drumeo videos though. Do you know about the Crimson Jazz Trio?

Mahler is some folks’ favorite composer, others think he’s a little excessive or just don’t get him at all…

I don’t know about that. My nephew just saw the punk exhibition at the Skirball museum and said he liked it, although he didn’t like punk. I asked if he’d heard Television. I knew that was a punk band that he’d like more than, say, the Circle Jerks…

I explicitly avoided offering any kind of list like this in my book. What's the point? The most historically important? My favorites? People come to the music with all sorts of agendas too. Is the same person going to like "Journey in Satchidananda," "Mass Projection," and "Creative Music"?

I see your point, but I think the singer is usually the focus, so AC/DC and Sabbath. Also whoever replaced the original Paul McCartney after the car crash.

I came here to find out about the violin recital and maybe find a funny way to point out that rosin goes on the bow hair, not the strings, but instead I learned this.

It has been a while since I read it, but IIRC a lot of free/loft jazz players show up. I think Lester Bowie has a significant part.

I am proud that, for my entire career, when someone asked for Ayn Rand I refrained from saying: "If you can't find it yourself, she doesn't want you to have it."

Much easier than Ra. Just about everything was released by a label in a standard format. None of this "every copy has a hand-drawn cover and five of them have a different, otherwise unavailable B-side" business, which is standard on Saturn... Then there's the super-galacto-fidelity.

I note that she called the World Stage "World's Stage" and that no one who works at the Times caught it. And that she called the Hancock Institute at UCLA a musicology program, which I corrected in a comment when the article first came out but no correction was made. It's a performance program.
