I appreciate it, Sue! I’ve had so many people reach out to say kind things so it’s helped a ton. I hope you’re doing well!!

The only other thing I’ll say for now is: I love my colleagues. I love being a journalist. I love Charlotte. It’s been absolutely devastating every time it crosses my mind. But I have faith the remaining staff at all papers will keep doing incredible work. They’re all amazing.

Today I found out I was one of eight Charlotte Observer reporters who will be laid off. In two weeks we - and many, many more at other McClatchy papers - will all be jobless. I don’t really know what else to say other than I hope people with job leads will help us out.

Local officials held an event to talk about preventing child abuse. But when @jeff-a-chamer.bsky.social asked about a horrible child abuse case from just months ago, and the public records in the case that they're withholding, they didn't have much to say:

Officials say a lot about child abuse prevention, little about Dominique Moody

A girl who wasted away and died was mentioned twice during the event that concluded with pinwheels planted near the Mecklenburg courthouse.

What would you do if your loved one was taken by federal agents during a random traffic stop? Luis Duque is still trying to figure that out after his boyfriend, Oscar, was detained by ICE agents Wednesday in east Charlotte. My story: www.charlotteobserver.com/news/local/c...

A Kannapolis spokeswoman confirmed to The @charlotteobserver.bsky.social that Edgar Maddison Welch, who died Monday after two officers shot him this weekend, was the “Pizzagate” gunman in 2016. He was shot when he refused to drop a gun pointed at an officer during a traffic stop. My story below ⬇️

ProPublica spoke with 135 people who had experienced "sweeps" of homeless encampments. We also distributed notecards so people could write about it in their own words. In Portland, Teresa Stratton told us her husband’s ashes were taken in a removal: propub.li/4fW8YIT

Text from handwritten note: My Husbands ashes. I made me feel alone scared, empty. now I wonder where he is and if He's all still in His urn and if Hes ok And I Hope He's not in the Dump
