The IMF thinks the UK is growing strongly. *And* we are directing that growth to make life more affordable for all. Payments to get down bills and investment in clean energy. 'Cos the last 40 years has shown us that growth does not automatically go to all people and places.

What this article fails to mention is that 40% of Universal Credit recipients *are working*. Deindustrialisation means there are lots of low-paid jobs that don’t pay enough to live on. We top up those wages so people can afford a decent life.

AfD's support is highest in Germany's manufacturing heartlands. Same as Reform's support in the UK. Deindustrialisation in 1980's -> fewer good jobs (for non-grads) -> rise of the Far/Radical Right today. That's why we need to create good jobs for all.

Bond rates are rising worldwide as spiking fossil fuel prices -> higher inflation. This is why we're fiscal credibility hawks. Our strategy has two pillars: 1) Getting inflation down directly (through energy bill cuts) 2) Fiscal rule commitment (a credible path for bond traders)

The more dependent we are on fossil fuels controlled by foreign dictators, the poorer we will be. Wars abroad lead to higher bills at home. Which then leads to higher inflation and then interest rates. And a burning planet ain't good for business either.

We can’t control U.S. Treasury yields. But we can control our exposure to expensive and volatile gas. That is why we’re investing in clean power *and* lowering inflation directly by cutting bills. Making life more affordable and getting borrowing costs down.

Gilts have risen today - along with bond rates *across advanced economies*. This is primarily for two reasons: 1. Higher inflation expectations, because of higher gas prices from the war in Iran. 2. Rising U.S. Treasury yields, forcing up yields of other nations’ debt.
