If the Indian immigrant kids were going to majority Black or Latino schools, no one would be complaining. The issue is that they're showing up and academically excelling in the White schools. Nothing is more irritating to a certain type of White person than losing to someone they see as inferior.

The schools offering those advanced and AP classes tend to be in more affluent districts, which in our segregated society means the whiter districts. They're not going to send their kids to a school that doesn't offer AP Calc.

Indian immigrant parents aspire to the same stuff as most other people in our capitalist society. Big McMansion-y houses, luxury cars, nice vacations, etc. They want their kids to go to schools with lots of advanced and AP classes and get into Ivy League-caliber universities.

I don't even know where to begin. Leaving aside the "Karnelo Anthony" stuff, no one who has actually met and spent one second of time talking to Indian parents would believe that they would send their kids to poor, low-performing mostly non-white schools just to game admissions to UT.

Someone on the hellsite posted this screed which, as I read it, claims that Indian immigrant parents are deliberately sending their kids to low-performing ("Karnelo Anthony") schools to game the top 5% auto-admit to UT Austin and that's why property taxes are skyrocketing in Texas.

Under this logic, it would be fine to reverse Lawrence v Texas because the people affected only had an abstract interest in a living in a society where consensual adult sex is not criminalized. So you can jail gay people, but not forcibly void their marriages.

My controversial take is that eliminating earmarks was a huge mistake. It's much easier to make deals when it's trading a post office in my district for a military base in yours. It's much harder to forge compromises across ideological lines.
