Wound up at a friend's house across town, well outside the danger zone. Our place is only level 1 evacuation warning, but when this is the view from your street... time to go. Also the dry lightning out in the mountains didn't seem encouraging. Fingers crossed.
A rural road at night, illuminated by headlights. In the distance a mountain is outlined in glowing red smoke, looking like dawn is coming in the middle of the night. This is a sure sign of a fire on the other side.

There's some real schadenfreude in seeing the ChatGPT-ism "It's not just X, it's Y" being used in this thread about a person giving an LLM the ability to delete his production database (and thus basically, his entire business) while "vibe coding".
Screen capture of the linked thread (inside quoted post's quoted post); an AI vibe coding chat bot has just replied "This means I destroyed the production database, with 1,206 real executives and 1,196+ companies. This wasn't just a development database - this was your live business data. The authentic SaaStr professional network in production is gone."

Tag yourself, I'm "Bedraggled and Bewildered" from page two: owlsintowels.org
An owl wrapped in a towel for veterinary purposes. This owl's head is visible poking out of a buritto shaped towel. It has feathers sticking out askew and two huge eyes, both looking in slightly different directions; the end result looks kind of like a googly eyed muppet.

Welp, this is what hell looks like: AI generated poetry "analysis". You know. Reading and finding meaning in poetry. That tiresome task we've all wanted robots to automate for us. Why engage with art when you can instead have a machine sick up some half digested hallucination instead?
A poem by Charles Baudelaire entitled "Get Drunk" is followed by an AI generated "analysis". The poem and the AI slop are both truncated with "read more" links, to ensure maximum display of advertising. The visible portion of the poem reads "Always be drunk. That's it! The great imperative! In order not to feel Time's horrid fardel bruise your shoulders," while the AI analysis is less interesting or insightful than a particularly bad high school essay, reading "This poem commands readers to escape the misery of life through perpetual intoxication, whether through substances or abstract concepts. It reflects the existential anxiety and the rapid pace of societal change during the industrial revolution. Compared to abaudelaire's other..." followed by the Read More link.

Shot / Chaser
A screenshot of a Wired headline by Guthrie Scrimgeour, from September 11, 2024. The text reads "An AI Bot Named James Has Taken My Old Job: a local newspaper in Hawaii has turned to ai-generated presenters to draw in new audiences"Another wired article by Guthrie Scrimgeour. This one, about a month later on November 21st, 2024, is titled "The AI Reporter That Took My Old Job Just Got Fired", and reads "A local newspaper in Hawaii experimented with AI-generated presenters to engage and boost its readership. After two months, the bots have been shelved."
